Just told I had to put down my leghorn due to a broken femur. So heart breaking. To mend the pain I’ve been looking at other birds and Cochins have peaked my attention. Here is what I’m looking for:

friendly
Hardy
Big chicken (can’t fly)
Pet like
Decent egg numbers
Good with other birds (I have 3 black stars 2 years old)

They are all those except for egg laying. Mine lay for a while, than go broody. I break them or use them to hatch.

They start later than many breeds generally, and then start going broody their first spring or summer. Generally they lay for 4-8 weeks than they go broody. If you break them they than resume laying in another 4-8 weeks, than go broody again. Generally a couple of times during the season. They do lay later into their lives.

Which chicken is better a Brahma or Cochin? Also can I get a silkie with either a braham or Cochin? Or is it not good to mix and match

Silkies are best kept with other meek birds. I have mixed them with bantam cochins without problems. I personally prefer the cochins over the Brahma as I find cochins more mellow, and they come in lots of colors. Both cochins and brahma come in bantam and standard.

Also I’m not looking to hatch more like use them for there eggs and as a friendly pet. What happens if I take an egg away from a chicken that goes broody?

She will happily sit on nothing. It's a hormonal phase that has been bred outcome breeds, but not all.

If you want chickens mainly for eggs you may want to look at other breeds.
