Looking for a breeder/hatchery for less common breeds

You might check with Metzer Farms....they are in located in Bay area California. They shipped my Indian Runners as day-olds and the ducklings were super healthy and happy. They were very nice and they specialize in water fowl. They will ship in quantiites of 2 or more, I don't remember all of what breeds they have but I know it is pretty extensive and their website is a wealth of information about breeds and waterfowl care. Even if you don't order from them, the website is worth checking out

Good luck with your ducks! My Runner girls live in the same pen as my chicken hens and while there was a little controversy at first they live great together now. Will you be getting ducks and drakes? Or just ducks?

Metzer does not sell the breeds I'm looking for, but I have heard nothing but fantastic reviews regarding them. At this point I'd prefer no drakes, but I'm not against them either. My husband "allows" me my backyard chickens (and now what will also be ducks) because they provide eggs. I'm thinking a mating pair of two of these breeds would be fantastic though too.

Stromberg doesn't carry any of them as small orders, you have to get 15 at a time, I don't have room for that many - 5 tops.

Boondockers ships Ancona and Saxony ducklings and they are in Oregon, so a little closer to you. They received Holderread's flock of Anconas.

Boondockers Anconas look amazing, but they require a min. order of 10, I can't house that many.

Aw!! I love babies! I would try posting a thread in the buy/sell/trade section of this forum and see who bites...I am sure there are lot's of good hatchers that use BYC that could sell you some chicks....perhaps that even has a couple of the breeds you want and can send them together....also try PMing (private messaging) Amiga or Kevin565 or Miss Lydia...they know a lot about ducks and have been on here for a while they may be able to offer some good advice.

If you find anything that small orders and they have Cayugas please tell me. i'm like you lol just looking for 4 or 5.
Metzer has a minimum order of 2. Folks who say they only want 5; unless you raised some before chances are you will lose some and an order of 5 will most likely only net you 2 adult birds.

??? I don't think that's necessarily true. I don't think I've EVER lost a duckling. Not saying it doesn't happen, but I wouldn't plan on losing more than half, that seems like a very high estimate.

I've ordered from Metzer's (small order of 6) and didn't lose any in shipping or after. I would always go with Metzer's if you're ordering waterfowl from a hatchery.
