Looking for a breeder/hatchery for less common breeds

Metzer has a minimum order of 2. Folks who say they only want 5; unless you raised some before chances are you will lose some and an order of 5 will most likely only net you 2 adult birds.
Um, yeah sorry but I ordered just 2, I'm a first-time raiser and both mine are still happy and healthy at 7 mos.

...And yes...getting back to the original reason we are here, I think it was Ideal Poultry I heard mixed reviews about...but I'm not for sure...I would do some research about who you intend to buy from, no matter who it ends up being.

X2

But take it all with a grain of salt. There isn't a hatchery out there that has 100% + reviews. Try to find input from people in your area that have ordered from whatever hatchery you decide on then you will have realistic feedback for shipping etc.

Again, check your state's thread in the "where am I, where are you" section, you could very well find someone locally that has what you want (happens alot in my state's thread) though you may need to wait until spring to get ducklings from an individual instead of a hatchery.

Good luck in your search.

Will be doing more research before I order for anywhere no matter what. This will be my first brood of combo chicks/ducklings so I'm really doing a lot of looking into both the hatchery/breeder/whatever I get the fluffy cuteness from as well as brooder set-ups and supplies, and what changes I'm going to need to make in our coops/enclosure once they are all big enough to go outside.

I will also look into what our semi-local feed stores/TSC carry come spring and the state thread. I know our local feed store has chicks throughout the spring and summer, but never with any advance notice and always a mix bag of breeds (not all of which I would necessarily chose for our hot Texas climate).

Thanks everyone for the answers and responses that were helpful here.

They do offer small orders, but not the breeds I'm looking for. Thanks
Private Message Coyote Night. They raise Anconas for sure and usually sell hatching eggs but in another thread I am talking with them and they might sell you Ancona ducklings...they might know of good places to get other breeds too.
