Here in Australia, I and many others rarely consider our Ameraucana's to be dual purpose. If you want a dual breed for it's actually dual purposes then you just sacrifice the coloured eggs and go for an Australorp or RIR.
However, there is a breed that does lay a 'different' egg, is much more stocky and really is considered an option for dual us. The Marans. I have this breed and own two roosters and they are not aggressive towards humans at all, but many people say they have unkind roosters and the hens aren't always as friendly either. They also don't lay as much as a RIR but will still give you a good amount. They are also quite broody and are famous for their rich dark brown coloured eggs. Also you can cross them with the Ameraucana's if you choose to get them as well and you can make Olive Egger, which lay a dark olive/ green egg.
Just another breed to through into the pot of suggestions hahah.
