Looking for chicks (quail chicks)

I have jumbo brown quail, I ordered eggs from Myshire and have and have breeder pens set up from them and a few from a local grower.
They are laying and the eggs are very fertile, I will give someone a really good deal on these, plus I have about 40-50 half grown that I need to move, I do have some tuxedos, plus I have 90 eggs set and will start hatching next week.
Quail are fun, the hatch rate is great and they grow really fast, the meat and eggs are delicious, I pickled about 8 dozen and they are all gone
I’m going to take a break from raising them for a while.
I’m in Burleson county Ribs, Texas, the county just north of Brenham.

I don’t know where “ribs “ came from?

Too bad i would definitely buy eggs from you but its a couple hours from us

I have a lady picking some up today.
I sold her some a while back.
I told her if she came and got them I would give them to her, plus the two breeder pens I built
how many female quails to male quails is a good ratio you think? Also i wanted to ask how common are male quails like 5 per 10 eggs or what?

The ideal ratio of males to females is 1:5. The standard hatch rate is 50% of each gender. That means that if you plan to hatch them, you need to have a plan for the extra males.

They can be quite tasty.

That’s how I had mine set up, but my hatch rate was much higher, sometimes in the 90% range.
I gave her 20 young hens and 4 roosters, they are laying good, plus I gave her 35 straight run that I had in the butcher pen, they will be ready to process at the end of the month.

I’m sorry, I didn’t read that correctly, yes it’s about 50/50 hens to roosters.
Ah its all good, do you think our local chicken store will buy them (they buy every chicken, not sure about quails though), if i wanted 3 females i should buy 6-7 eggs? And for my quail coop what do you recommend as a substrate? I was thinking sand but during the winter it’ll be cold and during the summer it’ll be hot

I built sand boxes and put a course sand in it that we have at one of our plants, they lay mostly in the boxes, every once in a while they lay on the wire, it really helps keeping the eggs clean.
The sand didn’t get too hot in the summer, they were always in it.
