Hi! This is my first time getting chickens, and I really want silkies. My area (San Jose) doesn't allow roosters, so I need hens. I have other breeds I am ordering online, but if anyone has Golden comets, Easter eggers (any color), black Australorp, or any other breeds you would recommend for first timers. (Like I said, I'm new to this.)

Welcome to Backyard Chickens wish I could help as you entered did you see a state thread there many from California

Also would be willing to pay for dna testing if that is required, just can't have any roosters
Welcome to BYC!! In some areas, they are more let loose. It depends on where you live and your neighbours. Please do tell me if you have found a place since I am also looking for some Silkies

I know places with silkies straight run, but haven't been able to find hens anywhere but mpc, which is always sold out. If you live near loss Gatos, chiknbees is good, if near downtown, Sam's is good too, not sure about them I'm not even sure they sell silkies. I heard they don't treat em right, but they make good feed. Hoovers hatchery sells straight run, and has free shipping, so if worst comes to worst, I will go there.
