Looking for good books to read

Books I've absolutely despised:

Most of these were recommended to me so I sat thru them.

Anything Stephen king
Heaven is for real
Marley and me
The fault in our stars
*The god delusion

Idk, I think maybe it might give you all a clearer idea of what I like with this juxtaposition. I don't really think about what I don't like. It's more I pick up a book and if the description doesn't interest me I put it back. If it does I open it and read the first page. If the voice of the author doesn't interest me I put it back.

*Edit: forgot to add this one. I just disliked the author a lot. Felt his "points" were rather opinionated

Mad Honey was one of the best books I've read this year.

For mystery/police procedural, I like:
Jeffery Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme series
Jonathan Kellerman's Alex Delaware series
Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe series

Ive read part of both those series. My mother was really into them and Patricia Cromwell books. Not really my cup of tea. I've heard good things about Jodi's books but her subject matter makes me disinterested

I enjoy reading fiction mostly. Not really into scifi...more fantasy. I also enjoy murder mystery. Books about Human connection. All sorts of things really. Some of my favorite authors are Dumas, Vonnegut and palahniuk. As for my age we're not allowed to really post it but I read mostly adult novels although I do enjoy young adult novels. I recently got done reading Flowers for Algernon.
You may have chewed through many of these already but off the top of my head in fantasy:

David Eddings. Start with the Belgariad. Either the collected series or book 1: Pawn of Prophecy. If you like that, you will pretty much love everything he and his wife Leigh ever wrote. My favorite is "The Redemption of Althalus", which is a standalone novel

Weis and Hickman. Almost all of their works are fantasy. I suggest starting with the Dragonlance Chronicles, book 1 is Dragons of Autumn Twilight. Don't ignore the Death Gate Cycle, it's incredible. Splits fantasy/sf though.

Joel Rosenberg. The Guardians of the Flame series, book 1 is "The Sleeping Dragon" Also D'shai series.

Anne McCaffrey. All of the Pern books. Start with Dragonflight.

Guy Gavriel Kay. The Fionavar Tapestry. Book 1 is "The Summer Tree".

I will recommend Mercedes Lackey. With a big warning sticker that says "THESE BOOKS ARE VERY LGBTQ THEMED AND IF YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THAT GIVE HER A SKIP" Start with Magic's Pawn.

Robert Jordan/Brandon Sanderson. The Wheel of Time series. Jordan passed away before he finished, so Sanderson took over. The Amazon series is based on these books. The books are WAY better.

Andrzej Sapkowski: The Witcher. Yes. That Witcher. These are VERY adult themed books. Start with "The Last Wish", Then "Sword of Destiny"

Tad Williams. The Dragonbone Chair.

Peter V. Brett. The Demon Cycle. Book 1 is "The Painted Man"

Melanie Rawn. The Dragon Prince Triolgy and others.

Kate Elliott: The Crossroads Novels. Book 1 is "The Spirit Gate"

I deliberately left Pappa Tolkein off my list. I'm presuming if you're reading fantasy a tall, you've already devoured his books.

I can honestly say I've never heard of these. I think I may have heard of the witcher though. By "adult themed" I'm assuming there's an R rating. I will look into these titles next time I'm at the library and see if they "speak" to me

I read the Hobbit in 5th grade and the Lord of the rings just the first one. I tried to read the second book in the trilogy but I just find Tolkien waaaay to descriptive. I get it...he wants you there. He wants you to see it. But I'm bored with the scenery

I've just finished three books in the past month and I'm just starting a new one but my reading list is pretty small. Looking for something new to sink my teeth into. I've read a LOT of books and I tried joining the local book club but all the copies are always checked out
If you like fantasy/ adventure novels, I recommend the Wings of Fire series.
