Looking for good books to read

I might have missed it since I briefly glossed over the other posts, but “The Alchemist” is a fantastic read.

I read Gone Girl and The Help because I saw the films and enjoyed them. In most cases the book is always better so I simply had to read them once I knew of it. I just saw A Man Called Otto so I might pick up A Man Called Ove cause it was quite good

I really liked A Man called Ove. The 100 Year old man Who climbed out The Window and Ran Away is good too.

I enjoy reading fiction mostly. Not really into scifi...more fantasy. I also enjoy murder mystery. Books about Human connection. All sorts of things really. Some of my favorite authors are Dumas, Vonnegut and palahniuk. As for my age we're not allowed to really post it but I read mostly adult novels although I do enjoy young adult novels. I recently got done reading Flowers for Algernon.

You would probably enjoy The Wanting Seed by Anthony Burgess.
If you have kindle unlimited there are a few good mystery series there. My favorite is Michael Stagg's Nate Shepherd series, another is Jeff Carson's David Wolf series, and there is also the Cass Leary series by Robin James.
The Kindle Unlimited subscription is worth it if your read several books a month.

More mysteries
Anything by J.A. Jance (esp. the Beaumont series) or by C.J. Box are worth reading. I'm also a fan of John Lescroat, Perri O'Shaughnessy ( this is the pen name of two sisters), Stephen White, and Johnathan Kellerman. The White and Kellerman books have a lot in common and the two authors do also. It was fun to compare the similarities to the characters in their novels.

Mildred Pierce by James Cain is an all time favorite for me.

Behind Every Good Man by Sara Goodman Confino might be listed as a romance but it read more like a comedy. I loved it so much that I spent a week reading her other 3 novels. I'm not big into romance novels either.

I am very interested in hearing what people are reading. I am a new Library Director for a small library. Most of my purchasing will be based on requests and such, but I would like to offer some different items and see if they find a following with our patrons. The library does not have a ton of room, so stand alones are always attractive to purchase. It is easier to justify purchases that were published in the last few years, but any information is helpful (at least to me.)

I mostly read old 20's to 50's readers and American history textbooks . We actually have a bunch of books we want to give away, but it's probably not something library patrons want to read!
