it was built on skids. what would be the best way to move it ahead in a straight line 12 ft to higher ground out of the sinkhole. cant get a big truck down where it is so could i move it with a tractor without wrecking it.

here are some older pictures

When you say "Skids" do you mean wooden pallets/skids used for shipping products or do you mean long wooden timbers. If it's on long wooden timber "skids" a tractor should move it with no problem and little or no damage. Just take it slow and easy. Heck I bet I could move it with one of my Simplicity garden tractors with little problem if the ground was dry and solid.

Ditto! My coop is on 6 x 6 skids (runners, they're sometimes called). It was built about 10 feet from where it ended up against the outside of the run (so I could get to all sides to work). We drilled holes in the skids, ran a rope through them, them towed & pushed. Worked great using a small garden tractor w/ a bucket.

If your shed has been sitting a while you dont know how solid it is under neath. If you can, use a stout 4x4 the width between the skids, attach the 4 x 4 to the skids either with a section of rope or a nice big bolt on each end. Then attach the pulling rope to the ends of the 4 x 4 then run the center of that loop of rope up to the tractor. What this will do for you is keep the two skids from pushing to gether and possibly coming unfastened from the bottom of the shed. You may pull it with no problem without but this would ensure your shed doesnt come apart if its not completely solid.

Learned this by using big horses to pull things.
