kbbeale, if you knew how long I've been waiting to test these babies myself! My girls were sloooooowwww to hit maturity.

I know that feeling. Hey, let me ask you a question about the Milles. I have three chicks right now that are about 8 weeks old. They all appear to be pullets to me, they have the coloring of mille hens. Do the roos appear to have darker feathers at this age?

I was thinking the same thing as I read through this Katy. I have mille fleur pyncheon and self blue (porcelain) pyncheon. They aren't laying right now though.

Ok.....I should have designated the title "d'Uccle". Sorry

No, the male didn't darken until he was already clearly a roo. He got a comb and the females didn't. Plus, you could just tell by his cocky plucky attitude.

And mine are d'Uccles

Yup. My roo was always cockier and nosier than the pullet. He's still a brat!

Check out the comb. There was a distinct difference early in the game. It took forever for my hen to go even pink. She didn't go red until right before she started laying. The roo had red wattles and combs from fairly early on.

Aren't they sweet babies though!
