Hello calling all Rose Comb Nankin breeders! I would like like to start breeding Nankins and I only have two right now. Their decent quality but I know I can't start my own line with one cock and one hen. I would like at least 8 or 10 eggs from a really good show line (no hatchery birds please). I have a buff orpington broody right now she's a awesome hatcher and I've been trying to get some eggs but I've had no luck emailing breeders so far.
Any replys are greatly appreciated! If you know some body on this forum that breeds them please tag them! Thanks!

There are a couple of Nankin threads on BYC, and you will see several of us had been looking desperately for Nankins, either straight comb or rose comb. Finding ANY Nankins is going to be the trick...I honestly don't think you'll find a really good show line already worked on and with any to spare...but you can have the fun of working on them yourself! I got some rose comb eggs from Simone Roland in Florida this spring and had a decent hatch but most were males and I gave them to a friend as I needed to be away a lot. On that thread you'll see LisaMP has straight combs if you decide to work with those instead.

Thanks. I was going to get some from Simone Roland, but she never replied back to me. I think straight combs are more relevant than rose combs, but I think the rose combs look nicer, unless it's just because they have a smaller comb, and I couldn't breed the ones I already have to straight combs without affecting the shape of the rose combs on the offspring. If I don't have any luck on here I might try emailing some more breeders, my email might not have went through the first time. Thanks for replying though. I was worried nobody would reply to/see it.

Sorry, I don't. I researched extensively some years back and again last year, trying to find good lines of rosecombs and attempting to contact those who were mentioned in old articles and forum threads...no replies to emails, some phone numbers no longer work, restarting their own flocks, quite old and may be deceased, etc. I understand why you want to find a line that is already producing show quality but I think the challenge is to find *any* rosecombs, and then work on them yourself. I hope you have better luck!

I just checked ebay on a whim and there are two current listings for rosecomb Nankin hatchings eggs; I believe one of them is Simone and the other is Seagrave & Williams farm which keeps a number of rare breeds of livestock. I don't know anything about them or their rosecombs but it's worth a try to get a start.

Thanks for telling me they were on ebay now! I just ordered some from Simone. In a couple months I'll probably order some more from another breeder so I can have more genetic diversity in birds when I start breeding them. Thanks so much!

Depending on the size of the next hatch (we're small scale,) I will likely have a breeding pair or two later this summer. My line is not hatchery based and has shown very well at our County and State Fairs. I'm not NPIP, so I can't ship, but if you're close enough to Maryland for a meet-up ...
