Looking for pics of Blue Laced Barnevelders

Decided to hatch some babies! These guys are getting harder and harder to find, so figured on getting started early.

These are from my Privett Hatchery birds. I think I have one splash.

I also tossed a Barnevelder egg under my psycho broody Easter egger hen so I may get one more.

They are so gorgeous. Are these the offspring of cloudy & Cleo? They make me clucky ❤️

Did you ever figure out if this chick was a splash barnie?
The splash was not a splash in the end. We got her from a reputable breeder however we believe that it was a genetic throwback and she is actually a light Sussex with some barring that has come through. It’s been a big mystery but the breeder assures me that there was no crossbreeding because of secure pens. She’s a lovely chook but we felt ripped off because she started laying at six months old and then a couple of weeks later she went broody. We let her hatch some chicks and she was a fantastic mother. She still looks for her chicks now even though they have been rehomed it’s kind of heartbreaking. Congratulations on your new little Barnies . I can’t wait to see how they grow up.

My HyLine Clover (pictured in avatar), went broody after her first clutch of eggs, when she was about six months old. She was bred to not go broody, but...she went broody. I did not mind.
I did the same as you and she hatched a chick and also was a great mama.

Recently she went broody again while I was away from home - I had to break her out of it so she would not perish from malnutrition. But now I have fertile eggs (from a heritage breeder) in an incubator and I hope she goes broody again so she can raise these chicks! In fact I am now deliberately letting the eggs pile up hoping they induce either her or another hen to go broody!

I am sorry that your chook looks for her chicks that are now re-homed. I hope she gets some new chicks soon.

That is sad. I had to remove a chick from a hen once, and the mama looked for it for a while. It was hard to watch, but she did snap out of it pretty quickly. It had to happen because mama wanted that chick to stay an egg forever and wouldn't get off the nest. I ended up finding the baby hanging by her head, her neck had become entangled in dried poop that had accumlated under mom's wing. I guess mama wasn't preening herself since she wouldn't even get off the nest (even though baby was almost a week old!) The poor little thing was barely conscious but ended up being okay. Mom sat and clucked for her baby for a couple days but then just suddenly snapped out of it. I hope yours comes around quickly.

Here are my current 5 blue laced Barnie chicks. They’re 2 1/2 weeks. 1 is dark, I think black. 1 is very light, I thought splash but now question, and 3 had blue down at hatch so I think they’ll be blue even though they seem to have lost their blue feathers for the time being.

The light colored chick, named Pablo (that’s what you get when you let your middle school students name your chicks- actually I don’t mind it I think it’s a pretty cute name) is pictured here. I’m wondering if anyone thinks it’s splash or just very light blue. I’ve never had a splash bird, but thought they were white with spots of blue. This chick is more silvery-blue than white.

I’ll post all the chicks, soon, for gender guessing. Right now the pessimist in me sees 4 cockerels and 1 undecided.

I think it’ll be cool, too, to use this thread to share our blue Barnies so feel free to share pics or stories about your birds here.

At the moment I’m looking for a predecessor for Cloudy, my rooster, so I don’t hate the possibility of having a lot of cockerels in this clutch. I also have 1 egg under a broody to hatch 2/22 and I put 8 more in my incubator yesterday. I can only find 3 sources of blue Barnevelders in the US at the moment and some of them are 💰💰
