I have asked in several different places for pictures of Marans matching the proposed APA standards. I am still looking. Does anyone of pictures of their Marans, looking mostly for CBM and Cuckoos? Please do not post links to any websites or to the French Marans website.
Thanks,
Sharon

You've got my attention. I wanna see pics too!

I'd love to see photos too of Black Copper Marans. I've read the French Standards and the American ones (that are supposed to be the same) and I've visited all the websites BUT.....like you.....I've yet to find pictures that clearly show what the heck they are talking about in both positives and faults. I want to see clear pictures as examples so that I can select my best of the best and put them together for breeding.

Right now I have some of Wade and Kevin Jeane's personal birds; I have all of Black Copper Kings birds (which he bought from Wade & Kevin); I have birds from Whitmore Farms; and I have birds/eggs (en route) from Bayhorsebonne. When I look closely at all the Black Copper Marans I currently have, I see differences in every one.

What exactly is the right color and amount of copper on neck, chest, wings? What is too much feathering on legs/feet? What if you get the "perfect" looking bird but it only lays a 4 on the egg color scale? What about a not so perfect bird, maybe the tail is too long (since it says "short" tail but what is "short") but the bird lays an 8 every day, day in day out.

Yes, prize winners, officials, judges, please post some pics on here or on your websites.

As "they" say - a picture is worth a thousand words.

Here, here! Lets see some pics.

I looked at the standard and I'm so confused. I'm glad I'm not personally breeding to sell, or show Marans. I just want a dark chocolate egg in my egg basket lol. So I guess it technically doesnt matter what my birds do, or dont look like.

I am not sure you will find birds that really meat the standard or those that will say it should be one way or another. Reason is that everyone is working on egg color and the body is the last thing they are thinking of. So therfor you will get variations across the board. Since breeding pairs are picked mostly on egg color and not body type.

Thanks for starting this thread. I have been wanting to start a thread like this for weeks, but I wanted to call it "The Brutal Marans Critique Thread" and I thought it would get locked right off the bat. We have the other thread for just saying nice things and congratulating everyone on their birds, but we need to sometimes step back and give ourselves a reality check on our breeding goals and progress. Hopefully we can help each other out here. Here is my best Copper Black roo. Have at it. Thick skin here. I would like to know his faults instead of just "He is my best one" and every one agrees he is nice.

Edit to add, here he is hatching. The flash washed out his egg color somewhat.

I would love to know the faults of mine too!
Got some 6 month olds, that just started laying eggs.
If anybody is interested in some eggs let me know, have some in the bator know and 3 under a broody.
But getting back to faults or not......
Also got a few eggs of Ebay, where the chicks that hatched have black legs , while my older ones (bought from somebody about an hour away) have light colored leggs with a lot of red in the,?!?!?
Now what are they suppose to be.
Will try to get some pic's today and try to upload tonight

I think they usually expect the copper blacks to have grey legs.
I've just looked at the standard for legs in French (I use the French as it has more info on some pages)....there were a couple of words I wasn't sure about so I swapped to the English. I spotted that the English wasn't a direct translation of part I had been reading in French!
