Trying to figure out a few things, just nervous I guess

When to order, when it arrives can you put in fridge till you have to use it?? want to make sure its all here before chics hatch?

From whom should I order from?

Now the biggy.. I am reading and thinking.. UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.. will only have to vaccinate most 10 chics

Do I order the type that is a wafer, break into 4 peices, then dilute it with the 50 cc/dilution... but first break the wafer in the bottle.. do they all come with a wafer style??? looking at photos of bottles they look as if they come with lots of wafers?? not just one

Then do I shoot the dilution all into a seperate glass containing the 1/4th wafer?
mix well.. set for 5 mintues

then take the little syringes- and needles- please what exact size do I get for that part?

and make sure to have at least 20 syringes on me for oops

Or do I ... take a huge syringe and put the wafer 1/4 into the syringe and pull up the 50 cc dilution and mix it together while its in the sryinge and then just draw up 20 syringes with 2cc ..... and go from there

You see I am nervous about mixing and not sure I am getting this right..

Also, final question- Whats the easiest and detailed step by step instructions then.. because different stores.. when you zero in on their bottles.. some look like they have many wafers in it.. and some look like their not wafers....

help your future chicky sistah out..

thank you all so very much

Yes, the wafer needs to be refrigerated. The diluent does not.

Each bottle comes with one wafer. It depends on where you live where the costs will be less for shipping. It's all the same vaccine from every distributor.

I don't recommend using less than 1/2 a wafer since they are like pills and you don't know where the virus is located in the inert material.

You will need a large sterile syringe (50 ml), some diabetic needles (1ml) and a sterile scalpel. You will cut the wafer with the scapel. Use the sterile syringe to withdraw half of the diluent.

You can mix it in a sterilized glass canning jar. I would put the diluent in first and drop the wafer in second. Make sure and swab the top of the diluent with alcohol each time you withdraw from the bottle to prevent contamination.

After you have mixed the solution just withdraw into the diabetic needles by carefully removing the needle part of the syringe and you pop the needle back on and you are ready to go. You have 1 hour from the time you mix the solution.

Each chick gets .20 ml injected into the back of the neck. You can do five chicks with one needle. I usually inject at the base of the neck near the top of the back. You will have to hold on to them pretty tight.

I ordered mine from Jefferslivestock. It comes in two bottles...the diluent and the dehydrated vaccine. Full instructions come with the package...and it comes in ice packed. Put it in your frig right away and it's good til time to use it. Be sure to have alcohol and cotton balls.

Three cc syringe to mix and 1cc syringes for injection. I got mine from my drug store and the right needle is on each one.

order from jeffers in dothan, al. 14.95 for smallest size which treats 1,000 chicks, it has one wafer, the wafer is the be initially mixed with 3 cc.s of the dilutent that comes with it and then this is put into the remaining dilutent (197 cc's) plus the 3 cc;s that you mixed with the wafer. the directions come with the vaccine. the wafer is a live virus and it should only be divided under a sterile hood. after vaccine is mixed two tenths of a cc(ml) is injected subcutaneouly into each day old chick. it is suggested to use the neck for the injections, get a tuberculin or insulin syringe which is marked in tenths, these syringes hold one ml , so you can draw up 5 doses at one time, just giving each chick the .2 ml of vaccine. you do not have to have a separate syringe/needle for each chick, the vaccine has to be kept cool after mixing, you can just put some ice cubes in a bowl and sit the vaccine in this until you get thru giving your chikcs the vaccine, vaccine is only good for 24 hours after mixing(check) label and after you use it any unused vaccine needs to be burned. again all of this is in the directions from jeffers. if you have state poultry vets, you can find one the will divide the vaccine under a sterile hood, but this is not something that should be done if you do not have a sterile hood. the needles to inject should be no more than 5/8 of an inch and then you will not be using all of this length, as you just need to get the tip under the skin far enough to inject without vaccine escaping.
