Looking to add to our flock..

Can I get some suggestions for good egg laying breeds that are also good pets? I have an Ancona and a Blue Delaware but would like to add one or two more and would like a variety of breeds to make them more interesting for our children. Though, honestly, am new to this.

I would recommend: Buff Orpingtons, Black Australorps, Sussex, Easter Eggers, Wyandottes, Sex-Links, Marans, Barred Rocks and Brahmas. All these breeds are known to be friendly and also lay lots of eggs.

A word of caution--it can be very tricky to add new birds to an already existing flock. I would recommend reading these three articles. They should help you with introducing.
