Looking to utelize a 10'x10' dog kennel....

I have a 10x16 chainlink dog kennel attached to my coop. It's working well, but has definitely been a learning process. I originally didn't have it covered and a hawk got one of my girls. They are also very very good at flying out, so I learned. I then covered it with a tarp, I only planned for it to be temporary, but with the first heavy rain it pulled the sides of the kennel down, and bent some of my top rails, ughhhh. So for the remainder of winter I have another dog kennel panel over part of the top and made a tent with a 10ft 2x4 and a new tarp. I still have to shake the snow off several times a day when it is snowing. I'm planning to do something different and more permanent when spring comes.
My ground is very uneven, I have cinder blocks lining the outside of the run, that part has worked well so far. I will try to take pics when the weather is more cooperative.

I also am planning to use a dog kennel for a chicken run. Getting them tomorrow, two actually. I like what I have seen and will use some of the ideas. I will only have 4 hens and I think that it is two 10 x 10 kennels. Lots of great room. We are so far going to attach this to the coop, how I'm not sure. The coop is an old 4' by 4' 6 foot shed type building used for a hot water tank. I think that it will serve nicely for a coop. This has been a three year dream and my dh is being very supportive since he really doesn't like chickens at all.

I will build and post my pics as soon as I get a camera. Wish me luck.

I used a big dog house and the small kennel to make a goose enclosure for night time. We put hardware cloth around the bottom today. Please excuse the chickens. They are trespassing.

Rocks work to go around a kennel, We bought some decorative stones at Home Depot to go around some areas of our run... but they were pricey. Rocks are cheaper!

I think the skirting is a good idea!

Another idea is to wire a hardwire bottom into the coop ( 1x2 inch or so) an then cover wire with sand or dirt so it is easy on chickens feet.

Since we have so many rocks, my hubby dug a trench all the way around the dog pen and buried the rocks then placed rocks also on top of the dirt surrounding the dog pen. It not only looks nice, but is very protective.

Here is an idea (not sure on cost though) what about the underpinning they use on mobile homes (trailers)? I bet you could get some used and cheap at a local mobile home mover or dealership!
