Red Star is a 'brand' name for a red sexlink. Each hatchery has it's own specific 'brand.' Other names for essentially the same thing are Lohmann's Brown, Isa Brown, Gold Comet, or Red Comet. They are a cross of usually a Rhode Island Red rooster and Delaware, Silver Laced Wyandotte, or Rhode Island White hens. The resulting chicks are 'sexlinked,' they can be sexed at hatch by color. Males feather in solid white with some red on the shoulders. Females feather in red with some white.

At 9 months it should be a pullet. That's why age is important....if you'd come back and said 3 months, my answer would be cockerel.

Agree she could have some Dark Cornish in her, maybe with Wyandotte, it's hard to tell. She's certainly got striking coloring, and you've got a pretty flock.

If that bird is 9 months old, it's a pullet. Looks like it might be a Cornish crossed with a Wyandotte. She is pretty. She's got a blue dilute gene which usually causes a dark grey on the head, that fades to a lighter grey on the tail. She looks very similar to blue laced reds, but she doesn't have crisp lacing.

Are you sure they are mixes? They look like a Red blacktailed and a Silver marans I had such a color from my former rooster redtailed and a silver hen. They grew up to be a pail gold and silver. I called him rainbow. I really liked the color . The head seems to be that of an immature Marans

The bird in question has very yellow legs, can't be even part Marans. They have white skin, and it's dominant.
A red-based rooster crossed with any silver hen would produce red sexlinks, though.
