That's exactly right. The disease got into commercial poultry operations by way of the workers when they attend shall we say “extracurricular poultry events” and bring back the disease on their clothes, boots, or vehicle tires.

x2Maybe an industry shouldn’t have been built housing a million chickens in close quarters on top of one another? Profit and greed was the driving force not just meeting demand. Now the economy is dependent on it. Some things should change and with it might come a little discomfort for some.
“Extracurricular poultry events” is probably right but that would include everyone raising as many birds as they can to sell to attempt to turn a profit. There is very little chance of that actually happening if the birds are properly cared for. Sure there’s some that can do it but they are in the minority. Swaps, poultry shows, etc.. all contribute not just a few illegal activities. Some actual research would be needed to understand how the birds were actually used and cared for. Sick birds would never have been used for any “extracurricular poultry event”. There’s entirely too much misinformation being thrown around because the very people killing birds for no reason are blaming the gamefowl owners and using them as a scapegoat. The disease got into commercial poultry operations by way of the workers when they attend shall we say “extracurricular poultry events” and bring back the disease on their clothes, boots, or vehicle tires.
Look I’m not pointing the finger at those who raise Gamefowl, all I’m saying is that if a factory farm worker attended a cock fight, swap meet, or even a poultry show that had sick birds in the vicinity the chance of transfer would be very high.“Extracurricular poultry events” is probably right but that would include everyone raising as many birds as they can to sell to attempt to turn a profit. People own gamefowl all over the country. Some folks need to open their eyes.
If that factory farm worker went over his buddy’s house who raised any kind of chickens and had a beer the same thing could result. I don’t understand where they’re getting a cockfight from. I’ve read and read all the articles and all the press releases. It’s BS. It’s all chickens and they have no idea. They’re killing off birds in locales close to commercial farms. Simple as that. None of it will do anything except result in a bunch of dead healthy birds. The bio security is a joke. Anyone can do it for a week but after that slip ups will be made. This will result in more regulations regarding owning backyard chickens if you will be able to at all in certain areas.Look I’m noting pointing the finger at those who raise Gamefowl all I’m saying is that if a factory farm worker attended a cock fight, swap meet, or even a poultry show that had sick birds in the vicinity the chance of transfer would be very high.
I suspect Gamefowl are being called the source of the disease because the public thinks that the right thing is being done when the alleged fighting birds are euthanized. Saying that fighting birds are the cause of the disease will go over well with the uneducated public than saying that the poultry industry is trying to cover its butt by having all birds euthanized in the vicinity surrounding their warehouses. If that factory farm worker went over his buddy’s house who raised any kind of chickens and had a beer the same thing could result.
