We disagree about Kerri Hand. I think she's a woman with an overdeveloped sense of entitlement and an unreasonable need to control. I think she's condemned by her own video.

Has anyone here watched it? It's tedious but since it's the foundation of her claims, I think it's essential. And it DOESN'T make her look good....

Anyone who thinks that the state veterinarian charged with eradicating vND over 29,000 square miles of Southern California was bound to respond personally and repeatedly to this demanding woman is a fool regardless of what early communications they may have had. Period. The expanding size of the emergency trumps Kerri Hand's need to turn her personal loss into revolt against the people charged with protecting the rest of us.

As for the Riverside County gentleman, the edict regarding vND is clear that suspect chickens and chickens in suspect areas WILL BE ERADICATED. There is no agreement on the part of owners required. If they made a mistake and showed up at the wrong property it's tragic and no doubt the man will be compensated to the extent that the state can even if they can't undo the tragedy. But this is a large scale operation involving thousands of CDFA and USDA new and temporary employees operating over 3 huge counties and, as others have said before me, involving over a million birds. Is there anyone here who is willing to say that sincere mistakes aren't inevitable?

The message from the state vet said nothing would happen UNTIL they talked and then that very day the kill squad showed up. Maybe people don't like how she handled things but at least she does something which is more then a lot of people have done a year into this. don't know if your following the page, or not, but the kill teams as we call them are sloopy shown time and time again if the disease is spreading they are the ones doing it. several times we have seen something injected in a bag and they are trying to hide whatever it is. No accession numbers for the tests they take, nothing all crammed in a plastic unmarked ziplock bag. and now they terrorize an elderly lady and shoot her birds, she has baby chicks wonder if they got their heads stomped.

Are you serious? They sat on their hands and did NOTHING for an entire year! Sorry, but the whole operation is a botch job. As quickly as they can? No, as quickly as they can obtain grant money and wait for it to get worse. But, think what you want, you're going to anyway. Hope you never have to find out the truth. At least they aren't any longer catching the birds, stomping on them, and shooting their heads off in front of children (yes,that's been documented) so some progress has been made. If that is drama, it is drama created by them. I'm not really into drama myself, but some things are intolerable cruelty, unjustified, and unnecessary and need to be called out. Yes, and that IS for the greater good. Those in charge need to be accountable for their actions, behave in a professional manner, and see to it that those they hire are sufficiently trained to do the job they were hired to do and able to treat the citizens they contact with respect. That hasn't been happening. Otherwise, all the actions they take and the millions of birds they killed are dead for no gain at all. As noted previously in the thread, the disease has now spread back into Los Angeles county. As to your scenario, if sufficiently virulent, I might self-euthanize my entire flock, but I would not wait for the CDFA to come calling if notified. There would be nothing to find at my house. Because no, I don't like drama...

Remember, they sat on this for a whole year because of a lack of federal and state funding. Still fed and states faults, but lack of funding is complicated and puts a little bit of a fork in the fan. 2003 outbreak there wasn’t a funding issue.
