My 5 month-old dark brahma pullet, Princess, has been sick for weeks now - I've tried everything but am at a loss.

She's declining rapidly and I fear for the worst

Symptoms: itchy, bubbly eyes, incessant head shaking and scratching - swollen eyelids, feathers scratched off around her eyes.

I've isolated her twice, she's had two rounds of Tylan-50 (5 days each time), a round of Tetracycline, she's been dewormed in December with Piperazine and last week with Ivermectin.

No lice, mites or any other parasites. Poops normal.

Feathers around neck thinning out - scratching? being attacked by others? I don't know.

Up until 3 days ago she seemed to be eating well but now she's lethargic, poofed up in a corner with her eyes closed between rounds of scratching. She feels lighter, like she's not eating much.

The breeder told me to give her an aspirin with 1 cc of Tempra, then 1 cc of Tempra a day for 3 days after that. Today was her 3rd dose of Tempra. He thinks it's a cold but since giving the meds she's gotten worse.

No other chickens in the coop have this, they are all healthy and thriving -

Please help!!!

Have put any Tylan in her eyes? It's a 1:4 ratio. 1 part Tylan to 4 parts Saline. One drop in each eye. Does it have a smell? I think Bubbly eyes is respiratory. VetRx in the nostrils.

I hope she gets better.

We had the same with a silkie cockerel back in February and tried all we and the vet could, we was unfortunately fighting a loosing battle and the vet advised that there was no more that could be done. We had been given Baytryl. The diagnosis was Mycoplasma gallisepticum, which only affected one other bird who was treat with great success.

I cannot tell you exactly what the deficiency would be But I do know that feather loss is nutritional. Not that is feather loss not feather plucking,. there is a difference. feather plucking is also often nutritional but for other nutrients. hopefully someone here knows just what nutrients to focus on. At the moment my best guess would be Vitamin A deficiency but that is little more than a guess. Regardless of how well you think you are feeding her, she specifically is showing deficiency. you may feed a well balanced diet, she may not be eating it. Supplying her with everything she needs in a form she cannot avoid it such as vitamins in water etc.
