Lost a chicken to dogs

Hello everyone.

I don't know where to post this on the forum, but I just lost one of my chickens. It got out of the fenced area and my dogs killed it.

I am sad.

This leads to a question, how do I stop them from flying over the fence?

Sorry for your loss. You can clip their wing feathers, put a roof on the pen or confine your dogs.

Sorry to hear you lost a chicken.

I clip the wings of chickens that tend to fly over the fence. Only thing is, when you have a young chicken you have to clip pretty often because of all the juvenile molts. The feathers grow back fast. On older chickens, you can clip less frequently.

Options include, but are not limited to clip wings, increase fence height, cover run, install 45 degree inward facing extension of at least 18 inches around the perimeter......
