Lost a Gander this Afternoon :(

Well, that was a bust.

Absolutely nothing wrong internally with the goose:

Yes it was a gander; he was getting ready for mating season as the gonads were enlarged. He was a bit overweight.

The lungs and heart looked healthy. Nothing in the trachea or throat. No blockage or "hardware" in the intestinal tract. Gizzard had some ground up food and little rocks. Kidneys normal.

No signs of respiratory illnes or botulism. No worms.

Liver was a little enlarged, but that could of been because he was dying. The vet suggested watching the others closely and if another gets ill or dies to send it off to the State Lab for testing for poisoning.

Jean , I have had that happen to me , I always think if they can't find anything then why did they die. Not that we want any to go but it always seems like its one of our favorites.

Did you check the inside of the heart well. Not sure if this happens in geese, but dogs can rupture one of their chordae tendineae (that help hold the valves of the heart in place) and their circulatory system basically collapses since they can't pump blood like they should. Just a thought...

Oh man, I'm so sorry

This scares me because I've got a gander who has been under the weather for a couple of days. I hope none of your other geese come down with symptoms.

Everyone else is doing just fine! They're all getting a bit frisky; I think I should find a egg any day now.

Four out of five of my runners has started to lay.....
