Lost a hen today

I lost one of my marrans today. Looks like her claw got caught on a double layer of chicken wire. I was only gone for an hr and my daughter called to tell me. She was fine when I left.

Poor girl must have tried so hard her heart stopped

I came home from work a few weeks ago and found one of my Welsummers (only had two) dead, caught under a double roll of fencing where it curled back on itself. Same scenario, I think; she must have tried so hard to get out and just panicked. I felt so awful. I also took care of that odd bit of fencing curl there, so it won't happen to any other chicken!

...of course, they can find their own ways to get caught on things...

I have yet to tell my husband. He will be so sad. He loves my chickens.
