I have to get rid of my rooster since we shouldn't have one. I'm pretty sure the law says I can, and the people down the street have chickens and goats, and someone else has a steer. I wouldn't mind raising polish since they are so cute!

Aww, poor little roo. Why can't you have one? And same! lol My neighbors have horses and chickens, then the others close to them have horses and cows, and some other neighbors just have chickens. Luckily it seems to be a known fact moving into my "neighborhood" means hearing the roosters crow. Of course I got the loudest ones.. they crow every morning from 5 AM to about 7 AM on and off, but stop as soon as I open the blinds or go out. If I close the blinds or go in, it starts up again, then I open the blinds and it stops. lol

Wow, you trained them well! I might keep him, he is adorable and he crows in the morning, and when there is a problem. I was attacked by the EE rooster in my avatar so many times that I gave him away. I tried all sorts of behavior modification on both our parts, but the last time he attacked, I had to knock him senseless to get away from him. That was the last straw.

Aww, good luck with this one if you keep him! Some roosters just seem to be more aggressive. One of mine is a cheeky little bugger, not even 4 months, and thinks he can attack me. He sized me up for about a minute, making himself as big as possible and making a ton of noise at me, and then ran when I bent down. He's weird because he also lets me pick him up and cuddle him. Going to have to try to break him of it, but not sure how; never meant to get a rooster in the first place, not to mention 3! I saw on a thread somewhere on the site someone was able to break a rooster by picking him up and carrying him around in a tote bag for a day, hand feeding him and only letting him drink out of their cup, and they said their rooster didn't try to attack them again. lol

Aww, I'm so sorry to hear that. Our neighbors have cats that we've asked them multiple times to not let out of their yards, to at least put that invisible fence thing around their yard (lol), but they still let their cats into our yard to bug our chickens. There's also an owl that set up a nest in our yard about a month after we got our chickens, so I'm guessing they attracted them. The poor chickens can't free range on their own without us watching because of it, so they're constantly in a pen until we let them out. They maybe only get 3-4 hours of free range time, and it's just so dang hot out now it's hard to be out any longer as it is. Luckily, none of them have been nabbed yet.

Owls are quite amazing. If I were you, I would destroy the nest as soon as there are no chicks inside it. And I would keep destroying it every time they try to rebuild before they can lay more eggs, every season if need be.

Maybe an air soft rifle or a paint ball shot to the cat would deter it or the owner from their behavior. Your property, your livestock, your right AND your responsibility (said as encouragement not judgement) to protect both. I'm just thinking of non lethal methods that might get the point across to the neighbors. Maintaining good relations is always nice, IF possible.

Cats and owls both hunt rats... but also probably both spread parasites and disease. Raising chicken brings special challenges. Good luck!
