Smitty's Farm :

He is really beautiful! Did you hatch him yourself? I'm considering hatching to be one of my next projects, but have to do a lot of research and build another coop possible.

I would like to have some silkies one day.

no, I didn't hatch him myself. I have been afraid to try it but did ask my dh to build me an incubator for spring! Everytime I see a gorgeous chicken on byc I want one. ha ha I love the laced ones. I want to get some more orps in different colors though. My silkies are more like decorations..ha ha. I love my cochins..I only have four but they are so beautiful. Wish I had a blue one or a splash but maybe someday...

I know what you mean. I'm addicted! I just love my chickens! I ordered day old pullets from Cackle Hatchery, b/c it seem to be the closest to my house, that's the hatchery that local feed stores use, and the min of only 15 instead of 25. I think they all arrived on April 11th. I thought I'd keep about 5-8 and find homes for the rest. (Ha! Who was I fooling!) I love them all to much to give any away.
I ended up with 1 lovely surprise SLW Roo, 4 SLW pullets, 6 RIR pullets, & 5 EE pullets. They threw in an extra RIR and they all lived. Oh yea, I also have one Bronze Breasted Tom Turkey that is failing. So sad! he's a real sweetie!

I'm busy taking care of this flock, but I know I will eventually add to the collection. I'm just taking it one step at a time, so I won't get in over my head.

that is how I got addicted...Cackle |Hatchery, which is 35 miles from us! I told my dh I would like to go there last April. I was like a kid in a candy shop. I said, five of these, five of these, five of these, etc.

My dh had to stop me as I had never raised chickens in my life. Now here I am with 28 chickens, seven guineas(they are like nosey old ladies, they crack us up), eleven muscovies and three mallards. I can't walk out into the yard without an escort...guineas. then all the chickens eat out of my hand now. If we work on anything in the yard the guineas come running and screeching and stand all around us watching. They are just too funny. No, they don't sound an alarm but they run along our truck when we leave but only to the top of the drive?? Real weird.

Ozark hen, we sure can send you a 6 hatching eggs Blue Orps or 12 eggs of Orp combo of Blue AND Buff orpingtons probably LATE spring OR early summer since I already got ten people on the list for early spring and late spring hatching eggs. OR I can hatch out some for you and ship them out to you since you are not so far away. More like three hours away from the MO border. Straight run tho because I can not sex them until they are roughly two months old.

Let me know if you are interested!
