Lost half the flock between last night and the night before...

The reason these two chicks made it, was because they roost in a tree above the coop. Mine are feisty. They hate to be caught and held. Don't seem to like people too much. Fast little buggers too!

LOL ours too! they are the hardest to catch if they escape! truth be told they are our least favorite birds, not that they are not pretty to look at but just not as nice as any of the others and boy they sure don't like to be caught.

i cant really tell if those trees are inside the fenced enclosure or outside but if you have a coon problem and you dont kill it, after it touches the electric fence it would probably just figure out to drop down out of the tree (or just climb down it if its inside the fence). i would cut down any limbs from nearby trees that something could travel from tree to tree on and it looks like you need some more fire wood anyway (j/k).

nah, the weather today is pretty decent. It can get hot and humid, but not terrible. We have a pool for those days. I live about 3 miles outside Springfield MO out in the county. Our property is 2.5 acres. We just moved here from the city in september. So much nicer than being jambed in a city lot. The place needs a little work, but for the most part it suits us.

Some of the trees are inside the enclosure, and a couple overhang it. I will go try to get some better pics of the tree situation. I could use a little more firewood for next season

. we burned about 5 chords over winter.

Ok, the first pics show the trees in and around the enclosure. the rest of the pics are to paint a picture of my property...

But hey, they way I look at it, she got a brand new deck!

judging from what I can see with the trees and whole coop area you will either have to lock them in tight from here on in or build a completely enclosed run (with 1/2 hard wire) dont use chicken wire cause they will chew through or rip it. you can still use the hot wire if you want for an added kick. Also you will either have to dig down about 18 inches and put harware cloth in the earth or make an L shape from base of run going outwards at least 12 inches. The predators try to dig right at the base so this stops that, they are not smart enough to back up a foot and then start digging.

Also get a trap and kill whatever is doing it (coon)

I think coon with maybe a few other animals getting involved after the hunt had begun.

Good Luck

so, I am leaving town on vacation this weekend and will be gone for a week and I just found a flaw in the electric fence. My goats like to scratch themselves on the welded wire part of the fence and when they do, they move the bottom of the fence outward. The fence touches the electric fence wire, making the fence useless. the only quick remedy I can think of is to get some tent stakes, and try to stake the fence to the ground so it doesn't move. I am leaving saturday, and don't have much time with packing and all to do much of anything...

Listen, Jason, I'm gonna be honest with you. I think this predator problem is too much for you. I think I also see some mold on your interior walls, and asbestos on the ceiling. You REALLY need to move ASAP and find somewhere less tree-filled to live. I'll tell you what: Since I know it's a real hassle dealing with realtors and title companies and banks, we'll just swap properties straight across. I'll go pack up right now. You have the key under the mat for me, okay?
