I only use up to 125 watts for my brooder. I had bought a 250 watt bulb, but it was so hot I couldn't even touch the ceramic base. Didn't like that. I also have the lamps wired to the wire shelf brooder cover I cobbled together, so they wouldn't slide off at the slightest hint of movement.

Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry for your loss! Loosing babies for any reason is terrible and a great loss but hooray and thank heavens for your dog
who helped avert what could have been so much worse! Hang in there and give that pup extra love from me!

Again, I'm so sorry!

Glad to hear you didn't lost your whole barn...That happened to us 3 years ago...We had a lamp for a new foal....

To answer someone's questions (sorry, dont remember who), Yes they CAN explode and cause fires...That's what happened with ours, though unfortunately, we lost our whole barn, including 6 horses.

Sooo sorry for loss. Good luck with your brooder ones.
Heads up every one with ceramic type heat lamps. Mine screws together. Thats the upper and lower ceramic parts. It was loose. Besure yours are tight. Mine could have come apart too and started a fire. Whew! I use one over the waterer in winter. Its a small red 85 watt flood light. Gloria Jean

that is good advice, today we bought a new heat lamp that will shut down if it detects a problem or fails down,at least that is what it says
