I'm losing power as I type. A massive thunderstorm is blowing in right now, forcast for a full 24hrs.

I have both eggs and chicks that are 100% dependent on heat. I need backup suggestions asap, I don't know how long I'll be off power.

I have 10hr handwarmers, tons of them. Are those enough?

If it’s just baby chicks, I’d say yes you could use multiple hand warmers. They’re small enough to cuddle up to them. Though you might have to sacrifice the eggs. I don’t think a hand warmer could also control its humidity.. Best wishes to your flock!

Well, 2 fresh hatched chicks that I literally just put in with 3wk olds.

The eggs I'm prepared to lose. I was about to put the turner back in after a stagger hatch, but not opening it now.

Priority #1 is absolutely the new chicks.

If your chicks are 3 weeks old, they should be able to pass through this storm without too many problems. It’s smart to look after the little ones as they will need to be pampered more.

What timing! I’ve been reading forums as I troubleshoot my incubator, and recently read an account of someone who lost power, wrapped the incubator in a blanket, and just left it until the power came back on, which took awhile. Even though temps were low, they still claimed a decent hatch. Agree that hand warmers should go to chicks... Best of luck!!!:fl
