Lost Scout

Gytha's instincts were accurate, as there was something following her. Closely, but not too closely. He honestly kept his distance, letting her get further away from the orc settlement before he finally approached her. As she started down the hill, the creature let the distance between them begin to diminish. He didn't want to startle her so badly that she ran, but eventually he would have to speak to her.

He quickened his pace, and veered slightly to the right so that he could overtake her without alerting her of his presence. Then he planned to reveal himself in front of her, to lessen the chances of her bolting off again. His footsteps were quiet, but he wasn't perfectly silent as he slipped past her, eventually ending up in front of her. Standing alertly, but in a non-threatening manner.

Gytha looked behind her again, still unable to shake the notion someone or something was following her. But when she looked back to the direction she was headed, she gasped loudly at the sight of the orc-like creature in front of her. With her level of exhaustion, there was little hope she could outrun him. Instead, she bent down quickly and picked up the only weapon available to her; a fist-sized rock. She intended to throw it at his head, but it wasn't until she was bringing back her arm that she noticed he wasn't preparing to attack her and did not even have a drawn weapon. She held the rock poised, finally studying the creature before her. "Let me pass," she said, attempting to keep the fear from her voice.

Danielle cowered with fear and covered her face with her hands to avoid looking directly at him at all costs. "I don't know, I don't know, I swear I don't know..." She whimpered through tears. "Please don't hurt me, she ran for the trees... I swear that's all I know!"

In anger, Mulush pulled the girl even closer, so that his spittle sprinkled her face. "WHICH WAY SHE GO?"

"T-that way..." Danielle pointed in the general direction that Gytha had gone, but her whole arm was shaking so badly with fear that it was nearly impossible to pinpoint a specific direction. "I told her not to go, it wasn't my fault, I swear I didn't do anything..." At this point she didn't even care if she was lying, she just wanted them to leave her alone. It was difficult to even begin to distinguish what exactly she was saying as her words blended together and were muffled by her tears.

The little orc creature calmly watched her as she picked up the rock, and didn't flinch or throw up his arms as her hand rose to hurl the rock at his head. "Gyyyytha," he pronounced her name funny, and emphasized the 'y' sound more than necessary. "My name is Gomez, please, lower the rock. I did not follow you from the camp to harm you. You are lost, hungry and alone... but don't be afraid..." He smiled, revealing a row of cracked, broken and yellowed teeth. Not seeming phased by the rock, he took a couple of steps towards her. Oddly enough he walked on all fours, then stood up again. "Let me help you... I know the way to your settlement, and I know there are people out here looking for you."

Orkhan's face was expressionless as he watched Mulush interrogate Danielle. He wasn't watching Ruby as she tried to free herself, but he was still standing right in front of her.

Gytha was far from convinced that the orcish thing in front of her was here to somehow help and she took a number of steps backward to match the distance he had come forward. But one piece of what he said intrigued her. She knew from Danielle that Aelfric and Danielle's father were looking for her, but how did this creature know? Her heart sank to think the orcs were already laying an ambush for her would-be rescuers. "How do you know that?" she asked, still holding her rock poised at the ready.

Mulush growled angrily before pushing the blubbering girl away from him hard enough to knock her to the ground. "Get Vorgak!" he snapped at one of the orcs bringing the logs for the fortification and the orc nodded, heading off. Vorgak was a skilled tracker, probably the best among them. "Cook 'em both up tonight," he growled, now in a foul temper.

"Come with me," he invited with a crooked smile. "I will show you, I think we both know what will be waiting for them when the reach the orc camp looking for you. Not to mention the number of orcs who will be combing these woods for you once they realize you are gone, you know as well as I do how important remaining secret is to them. You have suddenly become a lot more valuable, Gyyyyytha..."

Ruby froze, looking to Mulush. She heard the anger in his voice and shivered as fear raced through her.
