Lost Scout

Ruby reached her hand up to grab his arm, then kicked him as hard as she could. She wouldn't give up or give in.

Orkhan growled with annoyance as her foot connected with his knee. Up until this point he had mostly been planning on punishing her to the point of near death, hoping that she would eventually give up her act of bravery and submit to the orcs. Upon realizing that obviously this wasn't going to happen, he settled for taking the quicker and easier way of dealing with her.

Using his grip on her hair for leverage, he threw her brutally to the ground in front of him. Whether she fell, or managed to continue gripping his arm didn't really matter to him, because either his foot was ready to kick her, or his other arm was ready to punch her.

Ruby held to his arm until he released her hair. When he released her hair she fell, quickly rolling to get away from him. She shook her head and got to her feet again, watching the orcs carefully.

Expecting her to try and regain her footing again, Orkhan was prepared to be quicker. The moment he released her hair, he kicked his heavy boot hard towards her legs as she tried to stand. The mud around the wall was thick and heavy from the amount of humans and orcs walking over it, and he figured it would slow her roll down enough to land a blow.

Ruby felt his boot connect with her leg and fell down again. She couldn't hold back a cry of pain. She tried to get up again, but couldn't .

"Let's make an example outta this one," Mulush growled in the rough orc tongue. He produced a length of rope from his belt and tossed it to Orkhan, intending for the other orc to bind the trouble maker's hands.

Orkhan advanced quickly on the fallen girl, a smirk of triumph spreading across his face. With her never-ending courage in mind, he decided against trying to make it pretty. And, perhaps using her as an example to the other humans would make a revolt all the less likely. Unlike when he had been using the whip to scare her, this time he was all business. He didn't hold back as he swung his boot towards her again, this time aiming for her stomach.

Danielle looked away, tears streaming freely down her face. She couldn't watch, it was all too much. Her heart felt like stone, hard enough to resist the sun, and heavy enough to drag her spirits down into the mud. With Gytha gone she was on her own, left to defend herself against the orcs cruelty. Would it just be easier to do what Ruby was, and get herself killed? At least the suffering would end sooner...

Ruby pushed herself to fall to the side, away from the boot. She had no where to go she realized as her back touched the wall. She didn't want to die, and she didn't want to be stuck in this orc camp either. She lay still, unable to find a way out of this situation

After his boot missed, Orkhan settled for catching the rope from Mulush and reaching for her hands to bind them. With no regard for how fragile a human's wrists might be compared to his own, he bound her hands tightly behind her back and left her sitting up against the wall. From there he took a dirty cloth and tied it around her head to act as a gag, he was tired of listening to her disrespectful comments.

The creature stopped when she began running, and did not attempt to follow her immediately. His face appeared slightly puzzled at her sudden departure, but didn't seem to dull his spirits too much as shortly after she disappeared into the trees, he began following her again. Just before he crossed the treeline he paused and looked back behind him to survey the orc camp one more time, then slunk unnoticed into the brush.

Already tired from the hours of labor, as well as the lack of nourishment, Gytha found herself struggling to keep up the quick sprint, but did not dare slow down yet. She ran, roughly north, until every breath burned and her lungs simply could not suck in enough air to maintain her pace. She did not doubt that soon the orcs would be sending a group out to re-capture her, so still she pushed on, though much slower and now taking more care to step carefully and cover her trail. This part of the Greywoods was unfamiliar to her, but not far ahead she could see the terrain started up an incline. If she could gain the top, perhaps she could better survey the land and increase her chances of evading the orcs. So, lungs still screaming, she starting forcing her tired body to climb the hill...
