Hey there everyone! I am in a bit of trouble. I have recently lost two seemingly healthy chickens, and I now think I know why. I don't have time to search the threads for this, so links would be very helpful. As I made my breakfast this morning I found a roundworm in one of the eggs. I am devastated. I try very hard to take care of my chickens, and to have one in an egg must mean they are terribly infested. :( :(

I have heard the roundworm that infects chickens is not infectious to humans. PLEASE tell me this is true! I am so totally grossed out, and I am worried some customers of my eggs may have gotten one too. I would be mortified. I have two young children, and I DO NOT want to hear they could be infected.

ALSO, PLEASE tell me the best medication to use for them and I will get it right away!!!

Thank you all so much!

Don't stress, chickens get worms, just like cats and dogs, this is very common. I believe you use Wazine or Ivermectin, not sure which is better, search forum for roundworms, then you will have a better idea on which product to purchase. Also i think you wait 2 weeks before eating eggs(due to medication).

Ok thank you! I've been able to look around a bit, and I'm wondering, does Wazine work as well as Valbazen?
Valbazen is extremely expensive. :hmm
I believe if you use Wazine, you have to medicate again as Wazine kills adults but not larvae. You could use Ivermectin or Fenbendazole. Type in "Worming with Wazine', in the Search Discussions,Reviews,Articles,& more, there you will find what product and dosage amount.

Here is a link with information that dawg53 posted.
