Lots of drama - but finally, an egg

I wouldn't bother locking them up if they aren't laying anywhere else. Mine have never laid anywhere but the nest box, even when they are free ranging. One will go back and lay and when she is done cry pitifully because she can't find her friends after.

I've found a few bricks placed in my ivy garden right where any egg was laid prevents that spot from becoming a nest. Plus I generally "ground" the offending hen to a day in the coop to help her find a better nesting spot.

oh, gosh, thanks for this story !!!
At 25 weeks only one of my six girls is laying and it's been driving me crazy ... but since yours are 26 weeks I don't feel so bad

I really like the "eyeing you" parts of this story - they are so good at that! Lots of communication there, it seems.

same thinmg with my pullet this morning... i was woken up with screetching..would go outside..she would stop.. then she trys to nestle in the dirt..nope..again with the screetching...so i put her in the nest box..was in there for 20 mins...lots of thuds and clucking...she comes out..nothing.... goes back in again...5 mins later she starts to go baw baw baw baw baw BAWGAWAK...every now and then...then she is quiet.......then 20 mins later she starts with baw baw bawgawking(egg song) and there is a nice warm egg in the nest box yay
