LOTS OF TURKEY POULT QUESTIONS

They are on medicated feed. I also have to give corrid?
Medicated feed is meant to prevent coccidiosis not cure it. If the medicated feed is adulterated in any way (too many treats or mixed with other non medicated feed) it is worse because it exposes the cause to a non lethal dose of medicine allowing the possible development of an immunity to the medicine. Corid, if the directions are followed, will be effective where a medicated starter may not be effective.

One thing I’ve learned- if r2 suggests something it’s a good idea. But I’ve never had coccidiosis here. But I do have cordid on hand. You can get at farm and fleet and the like if you have those. Probably TSC and mills too. I’m not sure. @R2elk is there identifying precursors to coccidiosis? Or is it just death? If they don’t have it will the cordid hurt as a preventive measure?

Ok. I don't understand how they could have gotten Coccidiosis..they have not been outside. I suppose its just on and in everything no matter what we do?

SIDE NOTE: where can i buy corrid powder in Canada??

Coccidia is everywhere worldwide. Not all species of the protozoa parasitize all species of animals but it can be a problem in all animals that have contact with the soil. Poultry, game birds wild birds, cattle, goats, dogs, cats, et. al. - even humans.
It can be brought in on shoes, from flies, feed bags, innumerable means.
It only takes one oocyst tracked into the brooder space and then ingested. In no time it can multiply IF they are in a moist environment. If one can keep the bedding bone dry, they won't multiply.
There is also the possibility the problem isn't coccidiosis.

Since coccidiosis is a problem worldwide, virtually any purveyor of livestock feed and supplies should have either amprolium or a suitable sulfa drug to treat.

Wherever you’re getting the feed, I imagine, will have it.
Cant buy Corrid in canada off a shelf. Has to always be bought from a VET!!!

I suppose it can be very difficult to figure out whats wrong with a chick or poult.

So riddle me this: if a chick or poult gets sick - assume Coccidiosis and treat with Corid. Correct? Is this a standard procedure amoung backyard flock owners?

QUESTION 1: i should STOP medicated feed if i am supplying Corid?

QUESTION 2: i should restart medicated feed after Corid dosing is complete?

QUESTION 3: i should continue with medicated feed until their feet touch the ground outside?

PS: i found Corrid on AMAZON.COM (USA) !!AND!! surprisingly, they ship to Canada!!!

If the problem is coccidiosis, Corid will help. If the problem is not coccidiosis, Corid will not cause any harm.

Thank you so much...is raising poultry always stressful? I am going to give it a try. Do I wait until i see symptoms and treat one poult at a time or dose them all immediately? I ordered 4 bags of Corid (see link and photo) I opted for the powder because it has a longer shelf life when unopened.

As soon as you see symptoms, treat all of them at the same time.
