LOUD LOUD hen problem (pic of offender)

Oh, I had this problem too. Mine was a Cockoo Maran. She was so loud. She started every day at 6:30am. She also got her sisters going. I would run out every morning to try to quiet them. I had 5 hens and 3 were so loud I moved them into the garage till about 9am. I am in a suburban area and I am not zoned for chickens so having loud girls was not fun. I finally had to get rid of the offenders. I did the craigslist thing and has my choice of homes for them. Now I have my two quiet girls and life is so much better.

I have a VERY noisey RIR. She carries on for an hour or more after she lays and longer if her favorite nest box is taken when she wants to lay, man she just cusses out whatever hen is in HER box.

I too have relative close neighbors and I worried they would complain. So I asked each neighbor about it and the responses I got where. 1. What noisey hen? 2. Doesn't bother me, reminds me of the good ole days at my grandma's place.

So don't worry over it until you for sure your neighbors are bugged by it. What's worse a noisey hen for an hour or so or the neighborhood dog (we all probably know or knew one) that barked from sun up to sun down.

My Spitz girl likes to "laugh" when I come out to feed them. Boy does she keeps going!

Most of the time they are quiet. But the neighbors dogs, they would bark from sun up to sundown.

My Aussies are fairly quiet. It's a Barred Rock that won't shut the heck up!!

She was always noisy, but I'm wondering if I got rid of her - would another just take over the noise department? Is she in charge of entertainment??

The other Barred Rock has never, ever cackled that I'm aware of. She talks all the time when I'm around but that's so quiet she couldn't possibly be heard across the fence. The Aussies only carry on if they are separated or if one has a particularly bad morning on the nest.

I think one of my neighbors (the one with the manicured lawn) takes offense. He's already gotten rid of their dog because it was too much trouble.

Ah, what do I care? I'm easily old enough to be his father and my chickens should be "grandfathered in." If I'm lucky and she's smart, his girlfriend will jettison him just like she did the last one. My chickens may even help this along

No offense to the manicured lawn people but I never understood the affection for grass! Don't get me wrong I don't want mud but as long as it's green and thick I'm ok.

Steve, if I take a couple steps in my backyard and don't step in dog, chicken or duck poo then I can bet you I'm not happy! 'cause this means I don't have critters.

If it were me, I'd give her a little time to mature, but if the racket continues, I'd find her a nice country home on Craigslist. There's no need to be stressed all the time over one noisy chicken when there are so many quiet ones out there! Once you find your perfect flock you'll enjoy them so much more.

It's a good thing I don't have neighors! My noisy girls usually start in mid-morning and they are very loud. Thankfully, they are not near the house so it's not a big deal for us, but if we had close neighbors I'm sure we'd have to get rid of several of the little loudmouths!! The way they squawk you'd think the world was coming to an end!!! We have one EE that is particularly bad. One day I went out to collect eggs and opened the egg door not realizing that she was sitting there trying to lay. Holy cow!! She started screaming at the top of her lungs and didn't shut up for over an hour! I guess I really offended her!
