I"ve never incubated them before so I'm new to it, too. The UPA website has some good articles on incubation & the correct humidity & all that. I have 2 hygrometer-thermometers from
Walmart that work quite well. I always test them to be sure they're calibrated correctly, & I also use a water wiggler (if you do a search for these terms on the hatching thread you can find directions & explanations on them a lot better than I can try & explain it!)
Mr Burt liked to start his eggs under a broody hen for a week & then move them into his incubator - he said he got better hatch rates that way. He put them in the turning racks & also hand turned them 3 x day - I never was quite sure what he meant by that but I think he had them on their sides in the racks but also turned them completely over as well. Seems like that would scramble them but that's the way I'm going to do it when the time comes, except I don't have any broodies to start them under.
