"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Spoken with all of them,.. they haven't seen enough of a demand to make it affordable for them ,.. TSC in Covington said she would look into it,.. but she would like to see more people interested,.. I know it's available up north,.. but the shipping is as much as the feed! We are going as organic as possible,.. but feeding what we can get here is a hindrance,.. I see people locally selling "organic yard eggs" but when asked what they're feeding their hens,.. it's not organic feed,.. in the sense that it's chemical free and GMO free,..which is what my customers are looking for.

i found it strombugs has it organic laying pellets and starter and grower all organic but 54 dollars for a 25 pound sack, here is the link http://www.strombergschickens.com/product/Organic-Layer-Pellets-25-Pounds/Organic-Poultry-Feed ill keep and eye open and see what else i can find im personally trying to get some so if you find some cheaper let me know my daughter needs as much organic as she can get she is autistic, and i might try to grow some myself next year and see how it works out

I am not trying to be a part operor a smart allic, but why would you want to feed your poultry Genetically modified feed? I have been gardening organically with heirloom seeds and no chemicals, just manure and thought I was doing it the right way. I was diagnosed with all kinds of medical issues, including cancer, about 7 years ago. I had eaten processed foods, shellfish and pork all of my life. It is what we were brought up on! I did not think anything of it until I was rereading the health laws in the bible, and realized that God made our flesh to consume only certain foods, that were "clean" and "to be eaten". i stopped eating shellfish, catfish, pork and as much "processed food as possible and started raising as much "clean food" as possible and heirloom vegetables which are "herbs of the fields, after their own kind". Now I am healthier than I ever was, at age 64 and have no more tumors, nor cancer, not high blood pressure, nor arthritis, etc. It is my understanding that if chickens are fed organically grown plants without any chemicals or pesticides, they can get an "organic" certification. Please explain more about this to me if you would be so kind?
Thank you in advance,
Celie

I'm not sure you understand my posts,.. or maybe I just didn't make myself clear,.. forgive me if I didn't,.. but I am seeking NOT feed my poultry GMO feed,.. which is virtually impossible now because most of the feed grains in this country are GMO in some form and many with DNA modifications using animal DNA as inborn pesticide,..
I applaud your change in lifestyle and am so glad it has done you good. I was blessed to grow up with a grandmother that was very knowledgeable on the subject of health and the use of herbs,.. back then she was called a health nut,.. she was diligent in teaching me what she knew and I began studying nutrition and health very early.
Companies, at this time, are not required to specify on the label if a food product contains GMO ingrediants,.. but there are many websites dedicated to the subject and some bills have been introduced trying to get the GMO items on labels,..as of right now only certified organic feed is free of GMO grain,.. even the best " natural" feeds ( and people food too). have corn, soy, and oats that probably has .. amphibian or insect DNA in them,.. again,.. we eat a mostly raw diet in our home,.. and avoid GMO products and would like to feed our animals the same way,.. but everyday it gets more difficult. at least for us on a budget.

i have plenty of land but dont quite have all the equipment to make it happen yet, i do help a real good friend of mine out at his feed store when he has to work his other job i cover the store for him so i will see what i can dig up, but in the next year i should get a grist meal and be able to plant some and hopefully make it work that and a planter is about all i still need to make it happen so im not far off and when i get it figured out whatever i have left ill be willing to sell cheap.

Hey Ya'll,..
Need some info,.. is anyone feeding organic feed,.. and if so where are you getting it,.. or is anyone mixing their own?
I've been looking for a few years now in the southeast area,.. no success,.. some suggest having my own milled,.. but the mills I spoke with don't even know if their grains are GMO,.. and some don't know what it means,.. hoping some of you further north might have seen some organic feed,.. it would be worth the trip for me,.. I have friends that would buy some too.

Thanks
Where in LA are you? I can't keep up with everyone. :) I feed exclusively organic and order from an organic (thus non-GMO) mill. I get wholesale pricing (which is still significantly higher than non-organic); it's the shipping that really gets you. I have it shipped by a freight line and pick it up at their warehouse in BR. The more feed we order, the cheaper the rate per pound. I buy it in 50 lb sacks, but it is available in bulk shipping bags up to 2,000 lbs ($0.37 to $0.42 per lb if bulk of 2,000 lbs min). Keep in mind that the organic feed lasts me longer (at least 1.5 times) than the Flockraiser I used before I found the mill. The organic feed is NOT processed/cooked and retains all it's nutrients, so the birds eat less. The feed is a mash (coarsely ground or rolled). There are fines in the blend that include fish and kelp meal. My birds love it and don't waste a thing. The mill is also super accommodating. They will change the coarseness of the grind or alter ingredients (if available) upon request. Pricing (50 lb bag) ranges from $23.50 (developer) to $27.50 (soy-free layer is the most expensive, regular layer is $24). Shipping has run anywhere from $5 to $10 per bag because my order sizes have varied so much. You may have read an old thread I posted trying to see if others in LA had an interest in organic feed lol. I had NO response!
