"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Hi Everybody,
Sorry I have not been around for a few days; did anybody miss me? I have been having phone and computer trouble. Life sometimes gives us little tribulations, but boy have I been getting my share! I guess the more we are blessed, by our Father, the more Satan tries to mess with us? First, AT&T, who I have had my phone with has been getting worse and worse to deal with. About 6 to 8 months ago, we switched from dial-up Internet to wireless, Internet. Since then every time the phone rang, it would drop me off the Internet, so I could not use the Internet, and the phone at the same time, which is why we went to the high speed from the dial-up, in the first place. We called several times, really month after month, that something wasn't right and were told, to try this and that, until we gave up trying. They would keep saying it would cost $80 for someone to come out and look at the problem. We kept telling them that it had never worked right since they put it in. They would not wave the $80. , so I bought a MagicJack phone service for $30 and $20 a year phone service, plus $30 to keep my same phone number. On MJ's instructions, we called AT&T to get unbundled, so the phone and Internet would be separate accounts, and were assured that we were never bundled to start out with, that's why our bill was over $100, without any long distance. After that, when they transferred my number to MJ, they cut off all my services. I had to call and get a separate phone number for the Internet only. Your phone number is your account number, too. That took all day, with all the foreign accents those people have working for them. That worked for one day. Then the bad thunderstorms came. During the rain, the electric company came and hooked up the meter and power to Hubby's shop. To do this, they had to drop power to the house for about 20 minutes. No biggie, but when they turned it back on, no phone and no Internet. Big coincidence. AT&T swore they did nothing and it was not a problem on their end and we needed separate fiber optic lines for each service, or our house was wired wrong when it was built 14 years ago! . At this point, we were at the end of out rope and I finally got them to wave the $80 fee and send someone out! It was an older man they sent out with a lot of experience and right away he found that the new fiber optic line they put in was not hooked up to the house correctly. He also told us that we were being billed for the fastest Internet they had, even though we asked for the least costly. He then traced the line back to the source, from us and found 3 more mistakes at junction boxes with their wires, plus a junction box that was struck by lightning during the storm. So now we have service again, at least for now and I am back on line.
Now this weekend we are suppose to get some freezing weather for 3 nights. I knew since the older turkeys that laid so well, last year, haven't started laying yet. Like the old saying goes"knowledge comes, but wisdom lingers"! All we have to do is look at the oldest members of nature, like the oldest trees on the property and we can forecast when spring has started, before planting our gardens. The younger saplings might get confused and sprout prematurely, but the wise old trees have endured all this time because they were wiser! For us it looks like spring is still a couple of weeks away yet!
I really missed you and am glad you are okay. I hope the thread doesn't think badly of me, but I reported AT&T to the FCC in two formal complaints and wouldn't have service with them if it were free (opps, once they made a written offer to give me a service free and then charged me for it, try stopping that charge...anyway around and around it goes with AT&T and I am permanently done with them). Whew, please excuse me, that story brought back some very bad memories.

hey, I finally got to use the head against the wall!!

Is there a specific time (I'm guessing the first day) to imprint them? And anything specific I should do? When I pick them up, they seem startled at first, but they don't run.

They found the water. Water + newspaper + cardboard box = bad idea.

For those of you who remember me talking about the neighborhood rabbit (have no idea who it belongs to) that has been loose for about 6 months and surviving by eating the feed that are in my feeders,......... well his free ranging spree ended about 11:00 PM last night when I went "WABBIT" hunting. I ran him down for about 45 minutes. We were both so tired but I prevailed in the end. He was NOT a happy camper. He SQUEALED like a hog going to the butcher. I think he woke up the neighborhood. He was not happy being in the cage that I put him in but he finally settled down. I'm not sure what I'll name him yet though. I have him in the rabbit shed with the other rabbits and they DO NOT like it. I don't know if it's a male or female because I WAS NOT checking to see. He would have tore me up alive !!!!! The other rabbits are stomping and running around their cages like crazy. They know that they have a new suite mate. My oldest girl nipped at me this morning when I went to put food in her feeder. That is a FIRST. I have had her for 6 years and she has NEVER showed any signs of aggression up until this morning. This is a rabbit that I let free range in the yard and will not go anywhere. So she is scared, nervous and confused. I hope that the other rabbits will settle down. :/ Well here is a pic of the captured criminal.
Well, he/she seems to have been eating well at your house. How did you catch it? I have never heard a rabbit squeel, I heard they could, but thought it was a fairy tale. I've never seen one thump either. I guess, so far, my bunnies are happy, no squeeling or thumping, however, those little baby claws are razor sharp,,.really. I look like I ran through a blackberry bush!:barnie OUCH!
Well, I ran behind the rabbit for about 45 minutes with a net in hand. I mean I was literally running behind her. :gig. I know that I looked like a FOOL out there. :gig The rabbit was moving slow because it was dark and I assumed it couldn't see too well. That is what helped me. We ran around the chicken yard 3/4 acres. We went round and round and round and round. As I ran behind her, I tried to run her into the rabbit shed. She would get close to the door opening and then take off in the other direction. We did this for a long time! Then finally she fell for the bait (no bait :gig, she just took the wrong turn) and went inside the rabbit shed. I immediately put up a long sheet of plywood and blocked the entrance so that she could not run out. Well, little did I know that once she was in there that she would circle the rabbit shed about 250 times before I caught her. She kept running in circles and so did I. I got dizzy and had to stop to get my balance. Then she ran and tried to hide under the bag of rabbit poop. When she did that, that is when I got the net and caught here. That is when the LOUD squealing began. OMG !!!!!!! I have NEVER In my life heard search a loud high pitched noise. It was so scary. I finally got her settle down. I was about to pick her up but I was fearful that she would get lose or scratch or bite me. So, I picked up one of the kitty litter buckets (rabbit feed bucket) that was empty and put her in the bucket and closed the top. I picked up the bucket and walked it back to the house to get a rabbit cage. I got the rabbit cage and brought the cage and the bucket with her in it and went back to the rabbit shed and barricaded the front door opening. I then opened the top of the cage. I got the bucket and positioned it upside down so that the rabbit would jump inside the cage. It worked like a charm. Due to her being so frigidity, I got some rope and secured the opening. I placed her in the corner. I then forgot that I needed to put a waterer and feeder in her cage, so I had to go back to the house to get a feeder and waterer. I then had to go back out to the rabbit shed and put the feederer and waterer inside the cage and put in pellets and water. :th If your bunnies are not squealing or thumping, then they are happy.

I pulled out a toolbox cabinet that someone gave me a couple of years ago and will be putting the meds in there. My med cabinet has grown and I need more space. I use to have a few pages of information but I decided to get a little more detailed since I had a situation with one of my baby peas that was traumatic, so I am not taking a chance ever again.

Where do you give a chicken an injection?  :idunno

I don't ever give injections to my chickens. I do drenches down the throat. Maybe some who gives injections can chime in.

No, just handle them a little bit & put your hand down among them & let them get used to "the big giant hand". It's OK if you aren't there for a few days; they'll be fine. Once you get back & start hand feeding them treats -- (oatmeal is like crack to them)! & just take them out every day & sit quietly out in the yard w/them & let them cllimb all over you & there you go -- for the rest of their lives they will be all over you & you'll have to shoo them out of the way anytime you go outside.

They go through what I call the "hysterical screaming teenager phase" (no insult meant)! when they are about 3 weeks old & feathering out -- for some reason every little thing seems to send them into shrieking hysteria -- I just ignore them, make sure to pick up each one every day & pet it for a few seconds & put it back down, & keep offering treats in my hand only -- they have to come up & take it out of my hand -- they seem to get over this phase once they feather out fully.

I hope it's a SHE. I will probably wait a month or two before I try to handle her to look under there to see what it is. I don't like the feeling of getting bitten by a silly Wabbit. :gig

Are you looking for blue layers or green? Eggs or chicks?

I have some of both and should eggs going in the bator from these soon. I just need to check fertility.
I really dont care whether they lay blue or green... i just want some color (besides brown).
