I put the new arrivals in with some month old Silkie chicks thinking they'd make good babysitters. I heard a ruckus coming from the garage, and when I went to inspect, one of the silkies was running around the brooder with a Minorca chick latched on to it's crest! The Silkie finally shook the little booger off, but not before it got a mouth full of feathers! If this is how the minorcas are at 2 days old, I may be in big trouble when they get older! They are inspecting EVERYTHING. I was worried about their size, but it surely looks like they can take care of themselves! its nice to see active babies after such a long trip.

I'll definitely need to thin my SFH juvies, but I still can't figure out the sex on some of them. Frustrating!

I have 2 ADORABLE mixed babies that I just know someone has to want. They're half Olandsk Dwarf and half mottled bantam Cochin. I was a little impatient after separating my ODs into a breeding pen.

If I had a guarantee that they were both pullets, I would keep them. DH has mandated that any extra cockerels that I can't sell or rehome by crowing age will be processed, even bantams. So...I can't stand the thought that I might have a boy in these. I kept a pullet from this cross, and she's one of the sweetest birds I have. She's 11 weeks now. I just love her!

I just about always have Basque eggs. I throw the extras in the bator on the rare occasions that I have some empty space. I'm hoping that I'll be able to put white Bresse eggs in the bator in a month or so!

Lucky you. When those muscovys start setting on eggs, you might as well Exit Stage Left cause you have a fight on your hands. They are ruthless. I'm scared of them.

I would rather have 25 silkies AND showgirls in my chicken yard then to deal with a setting scovy hen and ya'll know I'm scare of those little creatures.
