I moved them to a new, massive brooder box (for me) today. It is about 9.5 sq ft. Huge, especially compared to the tiny single box they were in. ( it had to fit in a half bath because it was too cold!) I read .5 sq feet per bird. Is that right? It can't get much bigger with cardboard though.
I fed them by hand today. I had only done that with one at a time but with all of them at once it was... Well just crazy. They all crowded around and cheeped and fought to the hand. They loved it, and never seemed to fill up. They like my hand 1000x better than the feeder. They'll ignore a pile of fresh food for the few crumbs in my hand. The only problem is that now I'm just the food source. If I don't have anything they avoid "the hand"
My brother and sister watched the birds for a good hour. We now have "bunker chicken" who scratches down in the shredded newspaper and buries herself. We call the silkies Afro chickens but the one with the eye problem just got that name.
Speaking of him he is still alive. After watching him a lot today I discovered that he is not eating or drinking. When I switched boxes, I moved him first, and forced him to drink. He refuses to eat though. I literally faceplanted him in the food and he wouldn't eat. I don't know if he doesn't see it or what. Any time I get near he closes his beak tight.
Tomorrow if he's still alive I will give him some Sav-A-Chick with a syringe and try to pry open his beak for a soft worm or something. I even thought of making a green smoothie or green juice, since that would provide a ton of nutrients ( although few calories, which he must really need right now)

Lucky you. When those muscovys start setting on eggs, you might as well Exit Stage Left cause you have a fight on your hands. They are ruthless. I'm scared of them.
I would rather have 25 silkies AND showgirls in my chicken yard then to deal with a setting scovy hen and ya'll know I'm scare of those little creatures.

I am getting some VERY interesting calls and emails about my turkey eggs and guinea eggs that I have for sale. You tell people a price and they try to make an offer that is half of what your price is. SERIOUSLY?? REALLY?? Come on dude! Do I look like Wendy Water Head?
I guess these people don't realize that when these eggs hatch, they have a small fortune/investment. :/ And they expect to get the eggs for nearly free. NOT !!!!!!
I pick and choose who I give deals and freebies to and it's not to any Tom, Harry and Honey Boo Boo that emails or calls me. It's for people that I know or people that I have chosen to "pay it forward" to.
