Some of the local pages do make me cringe. However, the page for our local swap isn't too bad. We post what we are looking for and what we are bringing and typically most birds are sold before we even unload them. I don't ever end up bringing birds home that people had already laid claim to. Only one person has ever asked for a discount and I told them not unless they buy a certain amount and then this is the price. IF they would persist, I would just start increasing the price with every message and then they get mad and blow away.
You are always going to have Mama Boo Boo and Jimmy Joe Cheap____ (you-know-what) on those threads. They are everywhere though. My husband is a remodel contractor...a really good one. He just did an estimate for a bathroom remodel in a half million dollar home and the guy tried every which way to get the price cut on the labor: He never offered to get less expensive cabinets than the $4,000 ones he picked or look at marble that was under $10/foot. I used to sell hand painted crocks at shows and would ALWAYS have people tell me my prices were too high. My response is good, you don't deserve to own anything I have for sale anyway. However, you will also find a few awesome people too. Here is a good example....
I connected with an awesome Cornish breeder from Plauncheville, LA on one of the Louisiana Facebook pages a couple days ago. He and I exchanged several messages about my purchasing some of his WL Red Cornish and then we spoke on the phone last night. By the end of the conversation, he decided to gift me hatching eggs. No matter how many times and different ways I tried offering payment, he flat out refused.
So don't let a few bad apples or highly functioning rocks ruin the entire barrel sort of thing. You wouldn't want to miss that one diamond in the pile of coal.
