I got my first egg today. At least she was close. It was laid on top of the nest box.

I found a nest of barn swallows over the weekend...... The nest was under the porch overhang at the old woman's house that I work for on the weekends. I made the mistake of telling her I found a bird nest... This old woman actually followed me out to the porch and told me to knock down the nest and she would watch me do it (she knows that I would have just told her I did it). After arguing with her for a few minutes, I told her that if she wanted it down, she could knock it down and handed her the broom. She is a little frail 89 year old lady, but she sure as heck took that broom from me and batted that nest like it was a pinata. I went back in the house to finish up my "list of chores". The next thing I know, she's yelling at me to come help her because there were babies in the nest!! She had knocked the nest down and was hitting the babies with the broom!!!

Needless to say, I told her that I was done. I quit there on the spot! I cried the whole way home and most of the night. I guess I'm just too soft hearted, but I felt like she was out of line!

I think you are a normal caring person. It made me cry just to read and imagine that horrible scene, and I didn't even have to see it. I'm glad you quit that crazy mean lady.

I have no idea what they are. There were 5 and the mom wasn't there. We just closed it up and walked away. Very small. We may check on them later , but at that size we figured best to disturb them as little as possible.

Pretty cool to see though!

Edit: Didn't see all the other posts! The bird must have been small because the only she they could have gotten in was through a small hole in the bottom. (This thing mounted into the ground and has to be around 30 years old so plenty of small holes)
