@ the Hoffer Team!!!! Love it!!!
They are! They gather up all the ducks and most of the turkeys(their strong arm guys) and have meeting at night and evn call for strikes, when they don't like the feed I give them or what time I serve their treats !

This is so true about people who don't work for their money. I find people don't have pride anymore. They are happy to work the system. When Ron and I first got married we started our business with 300.00. Being the new masonry co. In town work would come to a stop every jan. To march so no work no pay. We were to proud to get gov. Assistance or ask our parents or anyone else for help. We ate a lot of beans and rice and peanut butter an jelly . Ron doesn't care to eat beans an rice very much any more. Now we make a good living but I have never forgotten the hard times. I try to stock up on sales and save money. You never know when or if hard times will hit again. Now if it was to happen the gov. May not be there to help. We too were affected by Katrina . We came back on the 4th day after their wasn't any assistance here and we didn't expect any. We moved trees with our own equipment. Didn't get paid to do it. We brought supplies with us. Our neighbor stayed so we knew he would need supplies. We were happy to help when we could. What upset me was if you didn't have insurance the gov. Paid your rent , gave grants to build your home back. People are still getting grants to raise their homes. If you had insurance but high hurricane deductible mine is 500.00 during hurricane 9800.00. You were offered a loan. I'm the one paying taxes in large amounts so they can take my taxes an give it to others and offer me a loan. It makes me crazy just thinking about it. FYI I didn't take the loan I did without nonessentials and used savings. This was for Katrina , gustav, and Isaac . Let's pray for no more direct hits I need time to replenish the savings. Pam
Yes, Pam, I have been in business myself Owned and operated 2 construction companies, building single family homes and Federally subsidized single family homes. Worked with subs from 5 in the morning till dark, sometimes 5 houses going on at once, all different stages, then with clients/customers and prospectives till after 10PM. Could not even go to the grocery without someone recognizing me to pick my brain. Got total burnout, because I was still raising a family and had 10 rentals, and you know how that is. Never rented a place I would not live in myself and kept them in top shape, but some tenants can tare up a place fast, like a neighbor's pet squirrel getting into the attic and eating the insulation off the A/C ductwork and not telling me until the kitchen ceiling starts falling in! Than later, bought a marina on Grand Isle that became a money pit in a den of thieves! But don't get me started on that one.

When I was young, often went hungry and was Thankful on Thanksgiving for a pancake dinner. No shame in being poor, as a kid, and homeless for 3 years after Katrina and Rita, but there is shame in staying that was out of LAZYNESS, IMHO !

Hey guys. I'm new to turkeys and I wondered if you could help me sex the 3 that I hatched this spring?

"Fat Pat" and "Large Marge"

"Pat"

Marge

And last of all "Big Mac" the Royal Palm who wasn't cooperating well for pics.

I was thinking the same thing.
Shrink wrap bags will freeze for a longer time, they say, but both are costly packaging. I was lucky to find, a few years back, someone selling misprinted heavy gauge ice bags, 10 # size for very cheep. I think I paid around $40 for 1000, so I am still using those, but only have about 100 left! They will seal in a vacuum machine, if you double the end you are sealing a couple of times. I usually use a twist tie on them and a straw to suck out the extra air. You can put a huge chicken Roaster or rooster in one or a fryer chicken or rabbit, then seal with a twist tie and still have room in the bag for a second and then another twist tie. I open the bag, when I want to cook one, just the top tie and take it out frozen, a put the bag with the bottom one, back into the freezer! I am even cheaper than you, KuntryGirl. !!! LOL I think I bought them from Fungy's that sells to convenience stores down in Lafourche Parish, but I don't know is they are in business anymore. I used to buy most grocery items and 20# ice bags, thinner, when I had the Marina on Grand Isle, because we had our own ice machine for food grade ice with 1 micron filters. The water down there is undrinkable and the ice companies who deliver ice for sale to fishermen, brought it out in trucks and bagged it in site, stepping all over it with their shoes! Really GROSS! I bought some shrink wrap bags, I hope will be big enough for my whole turkeys, this year, but they look thin to me, but then, I will not be lifting the huge turkeys by the bag! I also bought some poly bags, much cheaper for backups and some small poly (long and skinny) for ground turkey/chicken/rabbit/lamb(when he grows out, in Opelousas) for real cheap. I hear Sam's has 2 gallon zip-lock, but I don't shop there.
