"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Okay Peeps, I have a $13 -- yes, you read that correctly - THIRTEEN DOLLAR organic, all natural chicken from Kroger's resting in the fridge. Will roast it tomorrow & report on a "taste testing".
It better taste GREAT - because I could've bought a couple of nice steaks for that amount! But I truly do want to see if "all - natural" does taste different than plain ol' chicken.

been cool damp& clammy all day here but the sun just came out so tomorrow should be magnificent!

I went to five - FIVE! places in Alexandria looking for a replacement for my crockpot which bit the dust -- finally ordered one online at Amazon.com exactly the size I wanted & programmable & free shipping. This wasn't about getting a bargain; I'm very picky w/my appliances. It was $26.00 & I'm OK w/that. I couldn't believe all the Christmas stuff out already. I'm going to hide out here in the country until after the 1st of the year. I want to enjoy the holidays, not rush them.

Have a good rest of the weekend!

I have been trying to have some kind of good food to feed to my broody every day. She will eat out of my hand and not get too fussy with me now as compared to day one. At least when I have food in my hand that is. I think she likes to have that extra bite to eat when she was not ABOUT to get off that nest. For the last week it has been all HER nest. With the exception of the other two donating eggs, which I remove. I candled a few this evening. I didn't want to do too many and disturb mamma. I did find one that was completely clear, so I took it out. AND I got to see a baby moving!!!

Cuteness! I bundled their house up with a sleeping bag cover and some thick foam over the openings to help keep them warm. Most people I know would think I'm completely insane if they saw the Egg Hut right now

Oh well, I'm cracked and there is no fixing me. We are going to try to move my broody into the greenhouse sometime before hatch day. Hubby has been gone for work and there are things that need done on the greenhouse with making it more weather resistant that I just CANNOT do! So I wait. I must really have needed to be taught patience!

Geaux LSU and I'm going to make something with some pears I got on sale!!!

BTW, if you buy 9 lbs of onions because they were on sale.........and you decide to prep the all and press them ALL through the chopper then vac seal them for the freezer. It helps to have a fan and an exhaust fan, open doors and windows, two kids (who kept taking "breaks" to run to the door for a breather) and paper towel to dab your eyes. Wow! That was crazy!

But we made it!!! LOL!

For now on if given the choice I will only use a broody. These chicks are feathering out quicker than any I have had before and learning quicker. Also, it is cute to watch them poke threw the mamma's feathers and hop on for a ride.

Hahahaha too funny.
When hubby boils crawfish indoors (on occassion we have too lol), its a fury of fire to the senses!

I have a question! I would like to know what breed of chickens everyone is raising? EVERYONE IN LOUISIANA. I have EEs, Wheaten and Blue Wheaten Ameraucana, and I have Wheaten and Gold Duckwing Sulmtalers ordered for mid November. Thanks Eric
I have free ranging, random breeding rainbow colored back yard chickens, aka mutts, aka easter eggers, that lay mostly large to extra large eggs that are green, blue, teal, light to chocolate brown and very few white eggs! LOL makes for a pretty egg arrangement, but none lay true to breed. I started with all heavy duel purpose birds, that were specific breeds, but you know chicken math and at one time there were over 400! I have pretty egg laying mutts. LOL The broody in the rabbit barn, had her last 3 chicks with her today! 27 chicks to fill orders for young egg laying pullets and roos for the chef in April.

The ones mixed with naked necks look like vultures!!!

There is a type of vulture that is called a turkey vulture, but is in no way a turkey! LOL

I find a little vanilla under my nose helps and still sometimes goggles and a mask is needed. Sounds like me at Thanksgiving, cutting up 5# for the dressings, gravy, etc. LOL Hope you feel better now that you saved money and don't have to chop every time you use onion in a recipe?

That would definitely require goggles and a mask! LOL

I think some folks bake/dry them in the oven some IDK really the whys or what fors  maybe do a search on here for it there should be plenty of info on feeding them the seeds thye sy it has a natural dewormer affect, once again KDK for sure.

Jeff

I checked my handy dandy chart and it said raw was fine, so I fed mine the guts straight from the pumpkin and they ate it. I would rather not cook for my pets. Lol
