I feel sorry for primrose. My first flock was RIR. We later added 4 amercaunas we had to build a addition to our coup. I hoped one day they would accept each other and all go in the original coop. They never did. They free roamed my yard the RIR would always run the amercaunas off if they wanted too.
So have you thought about getting one or two RIR'S ? Maybe then she'll have a flock of her own. Pam

I would love to have a couple of RIR's but I'm over limit now, at least until I sell my house and move where I can have more. When I got the Amercaunanas I thought bec they were babies Primrose could bind with them bec she already was the outsider. Update on the ramble: the girls decided the shelter was better than being under the rabbit hutch, so they took the shelter and ran Primrose under the rabbit hutch, all alone.

Hey, have a tech question: I have BYC in my internet favorites. I have always been able to tap BYC under Favorites and it goes straight to BYC under my login without me having to login at all. Suddenly today I now have to enter my User and Password every time I go to BYC. The strange thing is my bank website said it didn't recognize my phone even though I have used it any times and had to re-register my phone to access my bank. Any ideas?? My granddaughter was using my phone today if that matters.

I didn't know you had a home owners assoc. That's as bad as a Ms. cravits sometimes. Might she have deleted cookies or history?
I think if it were me I would run a deep security scan and check other accounts just to be safe. I did see on my home page yesterday that their was another hacking of passwords I forget what company it was. Better safe than sorry. Pam

Just a thought, My RIR was a sweetheart, but the same thing happened to her....cause she was sick!!! There were no signs; she ate, bred, molted, went broody 3 times and even accepted others eggs cause they would lay ON TOP OF HER, and stayed broody for over 6 weeks until all hatched! But, they all ignored her unless to torment her, or the roosters for their moments of LOVE.... she DID go into the coop probably cause she was one of my oldest...but she was the only RIR and I've noticed my chickens are a racial bunch... like sticks to like. Anyway, one day she started limping kinda... more like what an old man with bad knees walks like... she was dead 33 hours later! I had had her for 2 years...doctor said she had had tumors and had been dying slowly for a long time... She was my favorite, loved my lap, so I KNOW I would have noticed something but I never did. The others KNEW there was something wrong her that was the reason for their mistreatment of her!
I hatch over 100 each year and have seen this happen again as well... something was wrong with the other two as well so maybe... there is something going on. BUT, it may be a racial thing. See, I cross breed mine to get the type I wanted....Easter Egger Rooster with Leghorn, Rock, RIR, Austrolorp, and Delaware hens is how I started my flock. So we never know what all colors we are gonna get. Since i started, hens of similar colored feathers flock together and a Rooster establishes each grouping as theirs and they keep to their own FAMILIES I guess you would say. Weird...so I would definitely get another of the same coloring and see if that helps first. A Rooster for her and then another hen I would think if you can. If not, may be sick.

Thanks guys. I actually had never thought about needing another RIR. But most old sayings come from the barnyard and there is one : "birds of a feather flock together. ". And she is my only RIR. I just thought the others flock together bec I got them together. So, at this point I am so in violation, maybe one more. Do I get a baby or adult RIR? If I dare push my luck even more.

If you get an adult then you want to coop them together for about a week away from the rest of the flock so they can bind to each other (after quarantine). If you get a chick you have to remember that she will mother it and the purpose is for them to separate from mother and exist on their own so there is still a chance of the chick finding its own place in the regular flock and leaving her again. It is hard either way to tell for sure, you may have to end up just having to have her as a lap hen. At least she has you!
