Holy Toledo BATMAN!!!! I will NEVER make that mistake again!!!

Crested cream legbars are the next breed I want. Tell me about your legbars. What's there personality like are they flighty? Are yours laying yet? Do you have a pair? I have golden laced Wyandotte's and a Easter egger. I'm also thinking of getting Orpingtons. I ended up with one bantam it was the last chick left when I got the Wyandotte's so I couldn't. Leave it behind. I forgot to ask what breed it is so once a week I post a pic and play name that breed. so far no luck its to young to tell. She has the best personality. when I go to the coop she jumps in my hands loves to be held. The wyandottes haven't figured out to go up in the coop yet. the other night she was on the ramp calling the to come up in the coop. She is smarter then the others.
If you hatch extra legbars put me at the top of your list for chicks.Pam
I only have one crested cream legbar, but I really like her. She is a great forager (leads all of the others all over their forage area), but will still come running when go to see them. She is particularly fond of my 6 year old daughter and will do tricks for her and follow her around, but has never been mean to her or anyone else. Unfortunately she is not laying yet - she is in the "could lay any day now" category. Every day I hope to see a blue egg, but so far no luck. I have 14 eggs ordered for sometime between now and April. The last eggs I got from this seller were BLRWs that hatched 10 out of 12. I am hoping I can get a similar rate from the legbars.

I just don't get why places think it's okay for a person to have 4 or 5 dogs often kept in small backyard yapping, pooping, howling, and breeding more into a critical level population but find farm pets unacceptable. Farm pets that could help end our hunger problems by providing fresh eggs, milk and meat. Sure I can get banning cows and horses maybe even roosters from urban areas but well kept chickens and goats are no more of a nuisance then dogs or cats.

(Nothing against responsible cat and dog owners. I have both. I'm referring to the large number of people who breed only for profit or get multiple pets for lawn ornaments and give them no attention so they become bored and unruly or worse - let them run free doing whatever they want)

Simply stupidity! Think about all the problems with store bought eggs and egg production places, that is what most of the population think are the risk with chickens. If there was a way to properly educate them there wouldn't be such a problem. As far as goats go, people don't think of them often enough because they never see them and don't know that they are part of many of the things that they buy. When I did my first batch of broilers I had more people than I could count ask why I didn't just buy chicken at the store where no animals were harmed to get it to my dinner table. I don't know where they think meat comes from, but it is not where I know it comes from.

Oh learned ones??

I have a question. The eggs on the left are 3 and 4 days ago. The lighter eggs on the right are yesterday and today. So what is the reason this happens sometimes. I think they are pretty and a neat surprise when it happens. But I always wonder WHY. Could it be they just have plenty of calcium and they are depositing extra on the outside? Because if you scratch a bit you can see the shell is the same color as the ones on the left. We have had this happen in any month of the year.

I suspect that it may be extra calcium, as you mentioned. Here is a link to a number of eggshell problems: http://www.alltech.com/sites/default/files/alltech-egg-shell-quality-poster.pdf It also describes the egg formation process.
