"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Cute silkiness!!! Love the coloring & frizzly feathers!
Sad to be back at work – it was such a nice holiday break! Gee, it’s so cold & dreary outside here – I think it’s colder now than it was this morning….both of the pea boys were fanning yesterday, silly things – it’s too soon for that!
Terri, I wanted to thank you again for the crawfish Oppalousas (did I spell that wrong? No making fun, LONG day working and then the grocery store with not only MY boys, but friends too!!! I NEED a drink after that experience!!) recipe. I made it again the other day and it was AGAIN a huge hit! I got a good price on some shrimp (froze them) and think I'll try it with those next time.

I think I'm going to try John Folse's deer sauce picante for New Years day. I've got this deer roast and his recipe sounded so yummy!! He's got a great website full of recipes. www.jfolse.com

I’m so glad you liked it!
LOVE John Folse’s website – I’ve made several of his recipes and never had one turn out bad yet. He taped several shows at Matt’s Cabin – one of the several places which are on the historical register & part of our neighbor, Inglewood Plantation.

Hello fellow Louisiana chicken people,

I just moved to Gonzales La. near Baton rouge, and I am interested in starting up a new flock here. I had an assortment of 4 egg laying chickens in a very urban area in Denver for the last two years and the wife and I enjoyed them very much.

Now Im back home in Louisiana, and I have a lot more land to work with now, I would like to start another flock. This time I would like to get 5 egg layers, I do not really care what breed they are as long as they are suited for the heat and are good layers. I would also like to get around 15 meat chickens.

Anyone know of a local place that I can buy from, and by "local" I mean within a few hours drive from Baton Rouge, or do I need to go ahead and mail order them?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Jeremy

Are you looking for chicks or grown chickens?
Petrus Feed ‘n Seed here carries chicks & can order what you want – their phone number is 318-442-2325. Covington has a monthly sale I believe – some of the members here can chime in w/info on that. They may be closer to you. I believe some of the La-yers here are in or close to Baton Rouge – they might have something for you.

I got my first one, production RIR, from Sac's in Gonzales. Then I got 2 Black Stars from a feed store in Baker. Then I got 2 Amercaunas from a member of this thread in Baton Rouge. Many on the thread order them and can advise. Some on this thread may have some for sale. Like Terri said, you should think about how young. There are some with heritage chickens as well. There are some with fine roosters they are rehoming. Good luck and welcome!!
