I would after a few days old. I'd keep a close eye on them. I think the most venerable will be adding the 3rd group to the 1st. The sooner their all together the better chance of one cohesive flock. I've had if both ways throughout the years I like it better when they all live together in one big flock. Pam
X2 new hatch with 4/5 week olds is a big ? i would at least let the new ones get a week old and try it but maintain constant watch to see how they are excepted until you are satified they are ok.

Thanks to both of you, topdog and Pam, I'll be careful. One question. It's 85 in the storeroom right now. Do you think I should put the heat lamp on them?

My Astrolope was 6 months before laying, Your Welsummer might be slow to mature like the Astrolope. Terri used to have them she might be able to tell you how old before they lay. Is she doing the dominice squate? Pam

If they are all huddled togeather they're cold.I would add heat. If you have a few here and a few on the other side of the brooder then I would leave them. If you already have a light out there turn it on if the move over to it they need heat. Pam

It's been a busy day! I bought pea gravel, moved my bantams out of their pen, cleaned the pen, added the gravel, then moved the turkeys. They loved the new pen! They have so much more room now. Four times the space, and they can stretch their wings.

Then I let my big hens out, and caught 30 chicks from three other pens and put them with the bantams. That took forever. I then combined even more chicks in a different pen with the bantam Cochins.

THEN I put my RIRs in a pen with the mallards, cleaned and refilled the Pekins' pool, and fed, gave everyone water, and made sure everyone was settling in well. Just when I thought I was done, I noticed one of my silkie hens is setting on eggs! (Yay!) so I went and got some eggs destined for the incubator and put 10 total under her. Lol. She wasn't able to hold anymore after. Her setting took up the only nest box though, so I had to make another and put it in their pen, which I'm sure the other silkies will ignore in favor of joining their comrade.

This is all in addition to a full day of school which included a trig exam (yuck), along with feeding and watering all the cows, horses, dogs, cats, and donkies, and also going horseback riding earlier tonight. It's been an 19 hour day for me and I'm ready for bed! Too bad I have to get up early tomorrow. I would say I could sleep in Sunday, but I'm going look at a pony for sale two hours away and have to meet in the morning.

Hey ladies, and gents, hope your day is going as good as mine. Lost 3 lbs this week, just from the extra work outside in the heat. I ordered a pink hat and noticed a shipping date of aug 1.

I've worked harder this last month than I ever had in my life. My SIL started doing the passive agressive way of his by talking about how when he was growing up he knew that things that had to be done everyday, we just had to pull up the bootstraps and get it done. I hadn't gotten around to finished loading the dishes. Man, pi$$ed my off big time. I told him when he is 67 instead of 45 he can be excused with his work. Couldn't do it. So finished this morning. My DD said that she noticed that I was spending a lot of time doing chicken stuff and not cooking so much in the evenings. She works so hard at the groom shop that she never cooks and when I don't, they order pizza. I make no apologies about this. My life is my life. But that was yesterday and so totally in the past. I'm happy today.
My babies are outside in the shade. I screwed up and didn't put ACV in the feed and they didn't like it as mush. I can't give the big girls FF because of scratch so they are doing the dry stuff for a day or two. Giving everybody Nutri Drench for the heat. Misting down the coop a couple of times. Ok, not misting. I sprayed the he// out of the chickens but I bet after all the screaming they felt better.
