Y'all, tonight the chicks were already snuggled up in the coop! All I had to do was close the door. It is only night 3! I was expecting at least a week to pass before that happened.

I can't wait to hatch my first eggs. I was at whole foods today and they had a new shipment of turmeric so I picked you up a rhizome to plant. Will send soon. Pam
Yay for them going into the coop! Sometimes I will pick up a chick during the day and gently set them on the perch. I try to do it a few times and even with different chicks. Once they all see that a few times they get the idea. They have not been using the roosting bar though. Do I need to do anything special to teach them? I'm sorry for having so many questions! I'm just going through a lot of firsts all at once right now!
Like LemonMeringue suggested, place them on the perch every now and then. From my experience young chicks won't use the perch for a few months, then all of a sudden all of them develop a taste for higher heights and start to perch. They have not been using the roosting bar though. Do I need to do anything special to teach them? I'm sorry for having so many questions! I'm just going through a lot of firsts all at once right now!

I love that too. Especially the younger ones that are still flighty. It gives me a chance to get close to them. Some of the older hens though just do not put up with "nonsense cuddling" Lol! Of course if always seems to be the ones that lay the prettiest eggs. They know they can get away with DIVA behavior. Also, sometimes mine roost and sometimes they sit on the floor. They will naturally roost as they age. I remember how exciting it was when I found out they put themselves to bed. And I really love holding them when they're sleepy. So sweet.
I bet they went bonkers!!!I bought 100 meal worms today. The girls and I had a blast.
