"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

It will get easier as they learn where they are supposed to roost. They are fine without food and water overnight, but I'd try to have water available in the morning.

I rigged the original part to not sag (yarn fixes everything!) so now I'm just going to somehow work on that top part. I'm glad I didn't let him make those slits. I'm thinking of just buying another lid from tractor supply. I saw one that is a roof with a point. I can just put it right on top of the other one. That way they will stay dry, have shade, and still won't be able to fly out! http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/store/kennel-roof--cover-kit-10-ft-x-10-ft?cm_vc=-10005 I feel like spending the extra money would make for less headache later. Might have to use the credit card so that he doesn't notice the cost as quickly and fuss me for spending MORE money on the chickens!

I saw that this week and I love it. My is shaped so weird 7.5' x 12' that I just put tin across the top. Works for me.

But first of all, where in the world have you people been. I've been out of pocket and I notice that nobody has posted today at all. Guilty I am also but geez.
Pam, I love you. Got the turmeric today and got it planted. That's so sweet of you to send me a salve for my knees and a great soap too. I've heard that you do good stuff. Got it on my knees now.

Chickens have a lot of benefits, but they are by no means the neatest of barnyard animals. In fact their coops, hen houses and pens can get really stinky. Sweet PDZ is the answer to your smelly, dropping filled coops. Sprinkle Sweet PDZ liberally where the birds make their mess. Reapply regularly on the most frequently used roosting areas, and you’ll be well on your way to a healthy, safe and pleasant smelling chicken house. Sweet PDZ also makes it much easier to remove the droppings when cleaning out the chicken’s house. As an added benefit Granular Sweet PDZ can be safely eaten by the birds and used by them to grind their food. Clean smelling chickens = healthy chickens.

I didn't put their food or water in there. Should I have?

They will put themselves to bed at night. All you will have to do is close the coop. I remember the first few chases. They do NOT like to go to bed until it is almost dark. I tried to put them up early once. Hahahahaha. Couldn't do it. Came back a half hour later and they were in the coop.
I give mine food and water every night. They do eat and drink. Once it is dark they get sleepy so if you ever need to hold and look over one that is normally skittish, just wait until dark and you can just pick them up. I also just pick up and pet my skittish one at night when she is calm just to get her used to it.

Thanks, Lemon. I will get that stuff. In the summer the smells can be stronger and I'm in a subdivision. I really try to stay on top of any odor. I will try it with the chickens and bunnies. Yea!!!

Aw that's so sweet. I'm glad you received it well. I've been busy canning. Getting ready todo a batch of figs. I hope the salve helps. If the turmeric doesn't take let me know I'll send a better piece. Pam

I'm going to try this thanks!

I didn't have to chase anyone tonight! Yay! I still had to grab them one at a time because they weren't walking into it on their own, but it is still progress. I walked in there expecting another chase. Also, my husband's coworker came to pick up his two chicks today. (I had gotten two EEs for him and one for me when I went to Alexandria and I was caring for them in the brooder with mine so he wouldn't have to.) Now I have only my five girls. You can tell that they are looking for the other two though, because they were waiting by the door and cheeping pretty loudly. When I went inside of their run, they didn't even run to me like usual. They just stayed at the door cheeping and looking outside. I had to call them over to me.

That PDZ looks pretty cool. I might try it out too. I googled it and a lot of people on BYC use it too! I might also try to sprinkle some in our cats' litter box. The internet also revealed that I can buy it at tractor supply.

You guys do NOT want to know what deep dark hole I had to dig in to get that sucker out. The poor horse has been sick for weeks. Hopefully things can resolve themselves now.

I got more chickens today!!!

They're a few years old and have been on cement, so they need some TLC. Luckily I'm just the gal for them. They're on hay now, so they should heal just fine.
