"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

i was afraid of that. We got him from jefferson feed. How can you tell? Also my gf has been looking at all these pics of beautiful birds with like indian headresses kinda. I guess that will be our nextprchase. I originally just wanted free eggs but we are getting chicken crazy, and FAST lol

The first clue is their is no breed americanas spelled with an i. Their is nothing wrong with easter eggers they lay more and bigger eggs than ameracunas. The later lays blue eggs the easter eggers lay green to blue and somtimes pink. At this young age the true ameracunas have slate colored legs front and back on easter eggers have yellow on the bottom of their feet. Pam

Is she or others picking? Are they just falling out? Pam

They just appear to be falling out and I mostly see them in their coop in the morning. I've never seen anyone pick a feather off her before bc she's normally the boss. Is there anything else I should be looking for? She's acting normal otherwise...

I did have 2 Black Australorps that were rough on the girls, they are no longer part og the euation, I only have the one great protecter, Bossman, which is in this photo, you can tell all the chicks dig him, lol, they actually seek him out and do a nose dive to get him to mount them, Donna and i have talked about this many times, so we made the decision to cull the bad boys. Now he has 46 hens to his self, not that they need him as i do not plan to raise chicks off of him anytime soon.
You could sell hatching eggs come spring you can get more than eggs sold for eating. Just advertise them sure enough some egg customers decide to raise their own. Then you offer eggs or chicks. Pam

When molting you find feathers all over. That doesn't mean its not molting if she is just starting. Can you take a close up pic tomorrow so we can see. Sometimes lice will make them pick them off. Does her skin look normal or is it red or inflamed? Didn't mean to cut you off earlier I was in a hurry. Pam

Now that you bring it up, I am ahead of where i planned to be at this time of 2014, I will be checking the next Cream Legbar egg to see if it is firtle, if so, we will start saving them for a hatch, if not, i may have to put the FBCMs Roo with her and get an olive egg line going, i really wanted to get a start of Cream Legbars first but I have yet to see the Roo mount the hen, but i have not been watching 24/7 so it is possible they are firtle.

If the feathers are on her brest area she might be going broody. It could be many things or she's just an early molter.Terri had a very good idea that I will use when cleaning nesting boxes is to put some DE in the box under the bedding.

She should be fertile Both of the roosters I kept bred with her and I'm sure the rooster you have has too.He was going after any hen he could catch. Some of the eggs I started are hers. Did you buy a bator or make one? You went from chicken math to chicken fever. :lau :lau

I am going to get one in a day or 2, still trying to decide my best option, it will have to be a no hands operation, you know, totally automatic because i am gone for 14 days, and Donna will be starting a part time/full time job next week, I for got to mention that i am building a 5'x5'10' coop for Hazel, thats what i call the hen and a few of my other special hens, I do not want Louis to eat the layer feed and damage his Kidneys, I have them on a mix of scratch/layer/and chops until i can seperate them. Hazel really wants on the ground but i dont have a safe place for her to use right now, maybe in another day or 2

I like hazel she is used to free ranging. But when I caught the phenox breeding with her I locked her up for three weeks. So she is really missing sunshine and bugs. The bernsea auto 20 is totally automatic. You only have to check the water once a week but if y'all are like the rest of us you will look more often.I figured you were building something sence you haven't been on line to much.
